About the Lab

Professor Han Sang Yoo's research lab specializes in veterinary virology, bacteriology, and molecular diagnostics, with a strong focus on zoonotic pathogens such as hepatitis E virus (HEV), Clostridium perfringens, and SARS-CoV-2. The lab develops molecular detection methods—including multiplex and nested RT-PCR—for rapid and accurate identification of infectious agents in livestock and humans, particularly in the context of emerging and re-emerging diseases. A key research direction involves understanding host-pathogen interactions, including cytokine responses in bovine immune cells, and evaluating mucosal vaccine delivery systems using nanoparticle-based platforms to enhance immune protection. The lab also contributes to the surveillance and molecular characterization of zoonotic viruses in animal reservoirs, supporting 'One Health' approaches to pandemic preparedness and zoonotic disease control.
