About the Lab

Professor Hee-Jin Park's research spans medical imaging, musculoskeletal radiology, and organizational behavior in team dynamics. Her work focuses on improving diagnostic accuracy in musculoskeletal MRI, particularly in identifying incidental findings and characterizing soft tissue pathologies such as peroneal tendon disorders and angioleiomyomas. She also investigates clinical biomarkers like the delta neutrophil index to differentiate challenging inflammatory conditions such as adult-onset Still’s disease from sepsis. Additionally, her research extends into organizational psychology, exploring how transformational leadership influences team learning, memory, and innovation through psychological mechanisms like team efficacy and trust.

SJR Q1American Journal of RoentgenologyOA

Incidental findings at MRI of the lumbar spine were common and associated with age and sex. Most were benign findings. An awareness of the prevalence of the incidental findings detected at MRI of the lumbar spine is helpful for diagnosing lesions not related to symptoms.

SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has a high sensitivity for peroneal tendon pathology but more studies with surgery as a reference standard are needed. PURPOSE: To evaluate the accuracy of MRI compared to surgery for characterizing chronic peroneal tendon pathology. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ninety-seven patients (57 men, 40 women; mean age, 39 years; range, 15-64 years) with chronic lateral ankle instability underwent MRI followed by surgery, with a mean

Delta Neutrophil Index as an Early Marker for Differential Diagnosis of Adult-Onset Still's Disease and Sepsis
Hee-Jin Park, You‐Jung Ha, Jung-Yoon Pyo, Yong‐Beom Park, Soo-Kon Lee, Sang‐Won Lee
SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

PURPOSE: To investigate clinical implications of delta neutrophil index (DNI) to discriminate adult onset Still's disease (AOSD) from sepsis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of 13 patients with AOSD and 33 gender and age-matched patients with sepsis. In all subjects, microbial tests were performed to exclude or confirm sepsis. All laboratory data were measured two or three times during the first 3 days and represented by their mean levels. DNI was measured automatically by

Sonographic Appearances of Soft Tissue Angioleiomyomas
Hee-Jin Park, Sam Soo Kim, So Yeon Lee, Yoon-Jung Choi, Eun-Chul Chung, Myung Ho Rho
SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine

Most angioleiomyomas reveal a homogeneously hypoechoic echo texture with a circumscribed margin and show straight and linear vessels in the tumor with convergence to one point on color Doppler sonography. These characteristics may be helpful when differentiating angioleiomyomas from other circumscribed hypervascular soft tissue tumors.

Computational Study on the Thermal Effects of Implantable Magnetic Stimulation Based on Planar Coils
Hee-Jin Park, Jae Hun Seol, Jeonghun Ku, Sohee Kim
SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Biomedical EngineeringOA

Although these simulations employed only one threshold value of 10 V/m, which is rather on the lower end of stimulation threshold, the simulation results are expected to serve as guidelines for designing planar coils to be implanted in the brain for magnetic stimulation.

Clinical Correlation of a New Practical MRI Method for Assessing Cervical Spinal Canal Compression
Hee-Jin Park, Sam Soo Kim, Eun-Chul Chung, So Yeon Lee, Noh‐Hyuck Park, Myung Ho Rho, Sunhyung Choi
SJR Q1American Journal of Roentgenology

The interobserver agreement of the Kang system was almost perfect and was higher than in the study by Kang et al. Grade 0 cervical canal stenosis represents negative neurologic manifestations and grades 2 and 3 cervical canal stenosis represent positive neurologic manifestations. The Kang system and clinical manifestations are significantly correlated, especially in the older age group (≥ 50 years).

So Yeon Lee, Hee-Jin Park, Heon‐Ju Kwon, Mi Sung Kim, Seon Hyeong Choi, Yoon Jung Choi, Eugene Kim
SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

BACKGROUND: Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of cartilage has recently been applied to patients with osteoarthritis (OA). T2 mapping is a sensitive method of detecting changes in the chemical composition and structure of cartilage. PURPOSE: To establish baseline T2 values of glenohumeral joint cartilage at 3.0 T and compare T2 values among subjects with and without OA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 30 patients (18 women, 12 men; median age, 67 years; age range, 51-78 year

The usefulness of the oblique coronal plane in knee MRI on the evaluation of the posterior cruciate ligament
Hee-Jin Park, So Yeon Lee, Eun-Chul Chung, Myung Ho Rho, Jin Hwan Ahn, Mi-Sung Kim, Jiyeon Park, Eun-Ja Lee
SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

BACKGROUND: Imaging findings of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury may be equivocal, particularly when the patient has suffered a partial ligament tear. Some PCLs are positioned more horizontally, making it difficult to diagnose injury based on routine imaging planes alone due to partial volume artifact. PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of combining oblique coronal imaging (PCL view) with traditional orthogonal views for PCL evaluation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective

Hee-Jin Park, Seung Min Jung, Jason Jungsik Song, Yong‐Beom Park, Ji-Sun Song, Sang‐Won Lee
SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

When lung involvement of AAV is suspected on chest CT, lung biopsy should be recommended for the proper classification of AAV, due to the discordance rate between radiological and histological findings in MPA and EGPA patients, but not GPA patients.
