About the Lab

Professor Hoonchul Shin's research lab focuses on the governance and sustainability of coupled social-ecological and infrastructure systems, with a particular emphasis on common pool resources, smallholder agricultural systems, and civil infrastructure. The lab investigates how institutional design, local institutions, and cross-scale interactions shape collective action outcomes under global and environmental change. Using mixed-methods approaches—including large-N comparative studies, field experiments, and case-based analysis—the lab aims to uncover principles that support adaptive and resilient resource governance.
