About the Lab
Professor Hye Yeon Koo's research lab focuses on preventive medicine and population health, with a strong emphasis on lifestyle-related risk factors for chronic diseases. The lab investigates the impact of alcohol consumption patterns, smoking, and behavioral interventions on the incidence of cancer and cardiovascular disease, particularly in large-scale population cohorts. Using national health insurance databases and digital health tools, the lab develops and evaluates eHealth interventions to improve disease management and prevention outcomes. In this cohort study, frequent drinking was a more important risk factor for incident GI cancers than the amount of alcohol consumed per occasion. Individuals should be cautioned about regular consumption of small amounts of alcohol in addition to the total amount of alcohol consumption or amount per occasion.
The Dr. Youth app shows acceptable technical effectiveness, user efficiency, and user satisfaction. Future study is warranted to establish the app's clinical efficacy.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of smoking habit change on the risks of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) among patients with newly diagnosed diabetes using the Korean National Sample Cohort data.
