About the Lab
Professor Hye-Yeong Kim's research lab focuses on immunology and renal pathophysiology, with a particular emphasis on innate immune cells such as NKT cells and neutrophils in inflammatory and fibrotic diseases. The lab investigates the functional roles of these immune cells in autoimmune arthritis, chronic kidney disease, and viral infections like hepatitis A, exploring their interactions with growth factors and signaling molecules. Additionally, the lab examines host-pathogen interactions, including viral receptor polymorphisms that influence disease severity, and the impact of host factors such as financial status on consumer perceptions of anthropomorphized technologies. The overarching goal is to uncover novel immunological mechanisms and therapeutic targets for inflammatory and metabolic diseases.
