About the Lab
Professor Hyeonwoo Kim's research lab focuses on musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in pediatric and geriatric populations, with an emphasis on spinal deformities, congenital bone disorders, and age-related conditions such as osteoporosis and dysphagia. 15When evaluating patients with neurofibromatosis and scoliosis, a careful search for the evidence of dystrophic changes should done, because prognosis and management depend highly on the presence of these changes. A younger age at transplantation and at pregnancy was associated with a greater likelihood of a live birth. Transplantation to conception interval of less than 1 year was not associated with a greater number of adverse pregnancy events when compared with the group with transplantation to conception interval greater than 1 year.
Lateral growth disturbance of the capital femoral epiphysis is not necessarily associated with poor acetabular development, as when dysplasia does occur it is generally evident prior to the identification of the physeal arrest. It is important to monitor acetabular development after reduction rather than search for radiographic changes of physeal arrest, which are difficult to detect in young children.
Eleven consecutive patients with 12 congenital pseudarthroses of the tibia had intramedullary fixation and autogenous bone grafting as an initial treatment.
