Professor Hyeungjoon Kim's research lab focuses on enhancing nuclear safety through systematic risk assessment and human factors analysis in nuclear energy systems. The lab specializes in human reliability analysis (HRA), team performance evaluation in digital control rooms, and safety frameworks for nuclear power plant decommissioning, particularly addressing radiation risks and human-machine interaction. It also conducts probabilistic safety assessments (PSA) for external events such as extreme natural disasters, integrating structural vulnerability analysis and failure mode evaluation to improve resilience.
