About the Lab
Professor Hyoyoung Jeong's research lab specializes in catalytic materials and sustainable chemical transformations, with a focus on developing efficient, selective, and mild reaction conditions using boron-based catalysts and hydrosilanes for the synthesis of biologically relevant heterocycles. The lab also explores innovative materials for civil engineering applications, particularly self-healing cement composites fabricated via 3D printing to enhance structural durability and sustainability. In parallel, the lab investigates human-computer interaction and digital technology impacts, including memory systems in computing and smartphone dependency in children, emphasizing cognitive development and social discourse in digital society. These diverse yet interconnected research directions reflect a strong commitment to advancing green chemistry, smart infrastructure, and responsible technology use.

15A chemo- and site-selective reduction reaction of isatin derivatives using catalyst B(C6F5)3 and hydrosilanes is described. This transformation is operationally simple, proceeds under mild conditions, and is resistant to various functional groups. Thus, this efficient reaction using a combination of B(C6F5)3 and BnMe2SiH or B(C6F5)3 and Et2SiH2 could potentially be
In the concrete industry, various R&D efforts have been devoted to self-healing technology, which can maintain the long-term performance of concrete structures, which is important in terms of sustainable development. Cracks in cement composites occur and propagate because of various internal and external factors, reducing the composite's stability. Interest in "self-healing" materials that can repair cracks has led researchers to embed self-healing capsules in cement composites. Overcoming the l
As smart phones make for the focal point of today's ubiquitous computing, demands of increased memory performance for DRAM and Flash storage are surging while trying to suppress power consumption. New DRAM architectures such as Wide IO, serial I/O and combo are investigated in the industry. Fast read/write access to Flash storage is needed with the virtual memory system under multi-tasking. This paper discusses new DRAM architectures from the perspective of performance, power consumption, pin co
Abstract This study examined the development of automaticity in processing L2 collocations, and the roles of L1 collocational knowledge and practice conditions in the development process. Korean learners of English were assigned to one of two practice conditions (practice in identical or varied contexts). The learning gains for word combinations with and without equivalent counterparts in the L1 (L1-only and L2-only collocations) were assessed using response times (RTs) and coefficients of varia
By examining habitual expressions, ordinary units of words and implicit but repetitive ways of representations in the crime reportages in the news coverage, this chapter illustrates that the prevalent discourse of crime reports contributes to the reproduction of misogynistic values and frameworks in South Korea. For this purpose, we examine two interrelated phenomena on reporting car accidents. The first is an exploration of the semantic evolution of the term Kim-yeosa ["Poorly skilled wome
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of children’s play behavior on the influence of mothers’ parenting attitude on the children’s smart-phone dependency. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 266 children aged 5 years (149 boys and 117 girls) and their mothers who were in early childhood education facilities in G city. The results of this study were as follows. First, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between
Introduction: This study investigates attention mechanisms and the accuracy of emotion judgment among South Korean children by employing Korean and American faces in conjunction with eye-tracking technology. Methods: A total of 42 participants were individually presented with photos featuring either Korean or American children, and their task was to judge the emotions conveyed through the facial expressions in each photo. The participants' eye movements during picture viewing were meticulously o
The purpose of this study was to examine the pathway of mothers' personality, parenting behavior, young children's emotional regulation affecting peer competence. In this study, the subjects were 341 young children (170 boys, 171 girls) 4 to 5 years of age and their mothers lived in Ulsan. The major results of this study were as follows; First, as far as the correlations among mothers' personality, parenting behavior, young children's emotional regulation and peer competence, it was found that w
This study was carried out to assess the distribution and pollution level of organic matters and nutrients in surface sediments of the Yeongsan River Basin. The surface sediments were collected from the mainstream (12) and tributaries sites (4) for two years from 2015 to 2016, and the particle sizes, organic matters (Ignition Loss, COD, TOC) and nutrients (TN, TP, SRP) were analyzed. The distribution of particle sizes was dominated by sand in the upstream sites (MS1-MS7) and by silt loam in the
The present study examined the effects of two different output tasks on noticing and learning vocabulary. Whereas Swain’s noticing function of output (1995, 1998, 2005) has been studied in the sequence of exposure to input and writing (e.g., Izumi et al., 1999; Izumi & Bigelow, 2000), the present study hypothesized a need for a target word through an initial output production attempt before learners’ exposure to it intensifies the impact of noticing the gap as well as noticing the target word in
In this work, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning to prepare the nanofibers-reinforced composites. And the PEO powders-impregnated composites were also prepared to compare the mechanical interfacial behaviors of the composites. Morphology and fiber diameter of PEO nanofibers were determined by SEM observation. Mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were investigated in fracture toughness and interlaminar shea. strength (ILSS) tests. As a result,
The present study examined the receptive and productive knowledge of collocations of second language (L2) and heritage speakers of Korean and also investigated the influence of phrasal frequency, exposure to Korean, and phonological short-term memory (PSTM). Seventeen L2 learners and 14 heritage speakers of Korean were tested on 30 Korean noun-verb collocations, which varied in phrasal frequency, using an acceptability judgment task and a collocation completion test. The results showed that both
