About the Lab
Professor Hyun Jung Kim's research lab specializes in vestibular disorders, with a primary focus on the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of balance and dizziness-related conditions such as vestibular neuritis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), and bilateral vestibulopathy (BVP). The lab employs advanced clinical and neuro-otological assessments—including head impulse testing, caloric testing, and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials—to study the chronology and mechanisms of vestibular recovery. It also explores innovative, patient-centered approaches such as web-based diagnosis and treatment for recurrent BPPV, and investigates the role of vestibular function testing in detecting underlying structural pathologies like cereellopontine angle tumors.

15OBJECTIVES: To determine chronological characteristics of vestibular recovery after vestibular neuritis (VN) by using various clinical parameters. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective clinical study. METHODS: Twenty of 22 consecutive patients with acute VN underwent serial follow-ups of static (spontaneous nystagmus, subjective visual vertical, and ocular torsion) and dynamic (head-shaking nystagmus [HSN], vibration-induced nystagmus [VIN], head thrust test, and caloric test) vestibular imbalances for 1 ye
This study provides Class III evidence that, in patients with dizziness, a questionnaire can diagnose BPPV with a sensitivity of 87.0% and a specificity of 89.8%.
Bilaterally abnormal HITs indicate that a patient has a large unilateral CPA tumor. The abnormal HITs in the contralesional direction may be explained either by adaptation or by compression and resultant dysfunction of the cerebellar and brainstem structures. The serial evaluation of HITs may provide information on tumor growth, and thereby reduce the number of costly brain scans required when following up patients with CPA tumors.
This study analyzes factors that determine the usage of digital information by senior consumers in the mobile environment. Senior consumers are alienated from digital information in South Korea; therefore, there have been increasing attempts to resolve this digital divide and reduce the digital information usage gap between young adults and senior consumers. The study used panel data from the National Information Society Agency (2017); there were 1,463 participants, aged 50-79 years. SPSS 19.0 w
Purpose of review The current review covers recent advances in bilateral vestibulopathy (BVP) in terms of its etiology, diagnosis, and treatments. Recent findings The etiology of BVP depends on its clinical course and associated findings, and genetic abnormalities are increasingly recognized in isolated as well as complicated form of BVP. Recent developments in evaluation of the vestibular function have greatly enhanced the detection of BVP, and introduction of the consensus diagnostic criteria
Importance: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vertigo with frequent recurrences. Objective: To determine the efficacy of a web-based diagnosis and treatment of BPPV when it recurs in patients with confirmed and treated BPPV. Design, Setting, and Participants: This randomized, controlled, parallel-group, double-blind trial took place in multiple referral-based university hospitals in South Korea between July 2017 and February 2020. Of 728 patients (age ≥20 ye
