About the Lab
Professor Il Gon Kim's research lab specializes in interdisciplinary health and cognitive sciences, focusing on cardiopulmonary health in middle-aged populations, cross-cultural psychopathology, and the cognitive semantics of Korean grammatical structures. The lab integrates physiological assessment with linguistic analysis and mental health network modeling to explore health promotion, cultural differences in psychiatric symptoms, and the cognitive underpinnings of language. Current research spans from exercise physiology and blood pressure dynamics to the semantic relations of Korean case markers and network-based analysis of hikikomori symptoms across East Asia.

5By studying the effect of the exercise practice in the purpose of providing the fundamental data which can be used for improving the effectiveness of participating in the exercise program, the benign habits of exercise, and practical health care development, our research focused on measuring the function of heart-lung and the blood pressure of the group of middle-aged women in order to establish suitable exercise practice and efficent health care. Our consequences are followed. When we viewed th
This paper aims to discuss the meanings of ‘-uy,’ the so-called Korean genitive case marker, used in ‘N1-uy N2’ constructions, under the framework of Cognitive Grammar (Langacker 1987, 1991a,b, 2000, etc.), and propose a new relation that may hold between the two nouns. The discussion will focus on three tasks: first, to propose the prototypical meaning of ‘-uy’ and analyze the semantic relations between the two nominals N1 and N2; second, to account for how ‘-uy’ can be attached to the postposi
BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare the symptom structures of hikikomori in Korea and Japan through a network analysis approach, addressing the scarcity of comparative research and elucidating potential cross-cultural differences in its manifestation. METHODS: Data were derived from the Research on Asian Psychotropic Prescription Patterns, Phase 3 (REAP-AD3) study, involving psychiatric patients in Korea and Japan. Social withdrawal symptoms were assessed using the one-month version of the 2
