About the Lab

Professor In Tae Yoo's research lab specializes in high-energy particle physics and digital humanities, bridging advanced experimental physics at the Large Hadron Collider with innovative data-driven approaches in the humanistic disciplines. The lab conducts precision measurements of fundamental particles—such as top quarks and W/Z bosons—using data from the CMS experiment at CERN, focusing on quantum entanglement and standard model tests. Simultaneously, the lab pioneers digital humanities methodologies, developing ontologies, knowledge graphs, and interactive web-based tools for literary and classical text analysis, particularly in Korean literature and Confucian classics. This dual focus reflects a commitment to advancing both fundamental science and the digital transformation of the humanities through structured data and computational methods.

Abstract In the standard model of particle physics, the masses of the W and Z bosons, the carriers of the weak interaction, are uniquely related. A precise determination of their masses is important because quantum loops of heavy, undiscovered particles could modify this relationship. Although the Z mass is known to the remarkable precision of 22 parts per million (2.0 MeV), the W mass is known much less precisely. A global fit to measured electroweak observables predicts the W mass with 6 MeV u

Simulation Studies of a Pixel-type 3-D Silicon Sensor

Silicon sensors with 3-D structures are expected to tolerate radiation levels higher than those of sensors based on normal planar technologies. We studied the performance of a single-sided 3-D silicon pixel-type sensor by using 3-D semiconductor simulation tools. We expect the 3-D silicon detector to have good charge collection efficiency and position resolution.

Abstract A tau lepton identification algorithm, DeepTau , based on convolutional neural network techniques, has been developed in the CMS experiment to discriminate reconstructed hadronic decays of tau leptons (τ h ) from quark or gluon jets and electrons and muons that are misreconstructed as τ h candidates. The latest version of this algorithm, v2.5, includes domain adaptation by backpropagation, a technique that reduces discrepancies between collision data and simulation in the region with th

A bstract The results of a search for the production of two scalar bosons in final states with two photons and two tau leptons are presented. The search considers both nonresonant production of a Higgs boson pair, HH, and resonant production via a new boson X which decays either to HH or to H and a new scalar Y. The analysis uses up to 138 fb − 1 of proton-proton collision data, recorded between 2016 and 2018 by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No evidence for

This Letter reports the first measurement of photonuclear D^{0} meson production in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. The study is performed using lead-lead collision data, with an integrated luminosity of 1.34 nb^{-1}, collected by the CMS experiment at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.36 TeV. Photonuclear events, where one of the colliding nuclei breaks up and the other remains intact, are selected based on breakup neutron emissions and by requiring no particle activity in a la

A search is reported for high-mass hadronic resonances that decay to a parton and a Lorentz-boosted resonance, which in turn decays into a pair of partons. The search is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138fb−1. The boosted resonance is reconstructed as a single wide jet with substructure consistent with a two-body decay. The high-mass resonance is thus considered as a dijet system. The j
