Supporting Young Children With Multiple Disabilities
Eva Horn, Jean S. Kang
SJR Q1Topics in Early Childhood Special EducationOA

Initiatives for Change in Korean Higher Education: Quest for Excellence of World-Class Universities
Jean S. Kang
International Education StudiesOA

The establishment of World-Class Universities (WCUs) is noted as a paramount development in the realm of international higher education. The integration of higher education into a more international scheme has enabled for higher education institutions (HEIs) to have a broader impact on the states and their respective citizens. This study examines the current environment of the higher education system, as well as the important factors that have contributed to placing WCUs at the center of interna

Comparative Genomic Screen in Two Yeasts Reveals Conserved Pathways in the Response Network to Phenol Stress

Abstract Living organisms encounter various perturbations, and response mechanisms to such perturbations are vital for species survival. Defective stress responses are implicated in many human diseases including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Phenol derivatives, naturally occurring and synthetic, display beneficial as well as detrimental effects. The phenol derivatives in this study, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and bisphenol A (BPA), are widely used a

Amber Friesen, Gretchen Butera, Jean S. Kang, Eva Horn, Joan Lieber, Susan B. Palmer
SJR Q3Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation

Collaboration and consultation in early childhood settings is essential in supporting early literacy development; however, building partnerships can be difficult. In this article, we describe a large-scale project entitled Children's School Success (Odom et al., 2003 Odom, S. L., Butera, G., Diamond, K., Hanson, M. J., Horn, E., Lieber, J., & Palmer, S. (2003). Children's school success: An experimental study of a school readiness curriculum. Bloomington: Indiana University. [Google Scholar]) as

Inclusion of Young Children With Disabilities in South Korea: Current Status and Challenges
Jean S. Kang, Jeongae Kang, Diane Plunkett
SJR Q4Childhood Education

Inclusion of children with disabilities in early childhood care and education settings improves learning and socialization outcomes for all children. In recent decades, many countries have begun to promote inclusion in school and child care settings, although most are suffering from a lack of trained special education professionals, long-held stigmas, and (in some cases) lack of political will. In this article, the authors give a brief history of special education and care in South Korea, outlin

Excimers and exciplexes are defined as assemblies of atoms or molecules A/A' where interatomic/intermolecular bonding appears only in excited states such as [A2 ]* (for excimers) and [AA']* (for exciplexes). Their formation has become widely known because of their role in gas-phase laser technologies, but their significance in general chemistry terms has been given little attention. Recent investigations in gold chemistry have opened up a new field of excimer and exciplex chemistry th

Current Early Educator Knowledge, Practice, and Needs Regarding Informal Assessment
Audra I. Classen, Jean S. Kang, Gregory A. Cheatham
HS Dialog The Research to Practice Journal for the Early Childhood FieldOA

Early educators are urged to use authentic assessments which assess young children's development using systematic observation of real-life experiences and activities (Susman-Stillman, Bailey, & Webb, 2014). However, only a limited number of studies are available regarding early educators' current practices and needs associated with systematic informal assessment (Early et al., 2007; Madaus, Rinaldi, Bigaj, & Chafouleas, 2009; Pretti-Frontczak, Kowalski, & Brown, 2002). Jean S. Kang
SJR Q3Asian international studies reviewOA

China’s trajectory over recent years displays a shift in its public diplomacy from traditional coercive measures under hard power toward a combination of both hard and soft power. As soft power signifies the diplomatic ability of a nation to attract others by projecting its internal values and policies, China has taken significant steps within the course of its political history to transition from an isolated authoritarian regime into a more engaged global stakeholder. In addition to analyzing C

When the Kennedy administration came to office, the president and his advisers confronted immediate and critical issues such as the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban missile crisis, renewed antagonisms with the Soviet Union over the status of Berlin, and negotiations for a nuclear disarmament treaty; still, they could not ignore China policy. Domestic and international circles burgeoned with speculation. John F. Kennedy and his cabinet projected images of “new frontiersmen” who promised to offer fresh and

In 1961, the Kennedy administration confronted widespread domestic and foreign anticipation that significant changes would be made to existing U.S. China policy. Although the new administration proposed to liberate the United States from past policies and offer fresh, innovative solutions to problems confronted worldwide, the major issues that characterized and defined the American relationship with both the Chinese Communists on the mainland and the Chinese Nationalists on Taiwan posed a challe
