About the Lab
Professor Jeong Eun Kim's research lab focuses on patient safety, healthcare quality, and the impact of health information on clinical practice. The lab investigates nurses' perceptions of patient safety culture, medical error reporting, and organizational factors influencing patient safety in hospital settings. It also explores the role of digital health tools, such as smartphone applications, in improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. Additionally, the lab engages in interdisciplinary research on biomedical materials, including the synthesis of functional polymers for potential medical applications.

15An exploratory study was conducted with 886 nurses at eight Korean teaching hospitals to describe nurses' perception of frequency of error reporting and patient safety culture in their hospitals and to identify relationships between the nurses' perception and work-related factors. The authors found that the majority of nurses were not comfortable reporting errors or communicating concerns about safety issues. A significant portion reported concerns about patient safety issues in their working un
Purpose: Purposes of this study were (1) to describe nurses' perception of hospital organization culture regarding patient safety culture and reporting medical errors, and (2) to identify factors associated with perception of patient safety and nurses' safety management. Method: A survey was conducted with 886 nurses using the Korean version of the AHRQ patient safety survey, a self-report 5-point Likert scale. SPSS 10.0 was used for descriptive and correlation analysis. Results: The mean for wo
The objective of the study was to determine physician's perception of the effects of health information on the internet on doctor-patient relationship. Online questionnaire with 25 items were sent to the Korean physicians' e-mail, and 493 replied. Eight-nine percent of the Korean physicians reported they had experiences of patients discussing the Internet health information. They perceived that Internet health information may enhance the patients' knowledge about their health. However, they perc
AIMS & OBJECTIVES: Medication administration errors represent one of the major concerns in patient safety. We aimed to study the rate using more robust methods for the correct results. BACKGROUNDS: Very few studies have been carried out on medication administration error frequency. Previous studies of medication error frequency have used mainly surveys of clinical nurses, which may result in substantial undercounts. DESIGN & METHODS: We developed a checklist using basic medication guidelines inc
Recently, the importance of Meldrum's acid has been reinvestigated because it serves as a great precursor for ketene generation by thermolysis. In this study, we synthesized conjugated polymers containing Meldrum's acid via controlled cyclopolymerization using a third-generation Grubbs catalyst. To avoid the solubility issue, copolymerization with soluble monomers was successfully used to provide various random and block copolymers containing Meldrum's acid in the conjugated backbone. Interestin
This study is meaningful because it demonstrates a healthcare smartphone app evaluation tool that is proven in terms of its validity and reliability. The evaluation tool developed and tested in this study is an appropriate and widely applicable tool with which to evaluate healthcare smartphone apps to determine if they are reliable and useful. However, this evaluation tool represents the beginning of the research in this area.
For PHRs to be efficiently used by general public, initial understanding of the history and trends of PHR research may be helpful. Simultaneously, accurate understanding and categorical analysis of expert opinions that can lead to the development and growth of PHRs will be valuable to their adoption and expansion.
In this study, the fumigant antifungal activity of 10 Lamiaceae plant essential oils was evaluated against two phytopathogenic fungi, Raffaelea quercus-mongolicae, and Rhizoctonia solani. Among the tested essential oils, thyme white (Thymus vulgaris) and summer savory (Satureja hortensis) essential oils exhibited the strongest fumigant antifungal activity against the phytopathogenic fungi. We analyzed the chemical composition of two active essential oils and tested the fumigant antifungal activi
Purpose: The objective of this research was to measure health literacy level of the visitors of a university hospital's out patient clinic and to consider its influence factors. Methods: Subjects were 400 visitors in an outpatient clinic of a university hospital. By using self-report questionnaire which included Newest Vital Sign(NVS) and general information inquiry, the level of health literacy and its influence factors were measured. The data were analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's
The HITAM was verified for its ability to describe the health consumer's attitude, behavioral intention, and behavior. The analysis indicated that the ease of use of a particular HIT device stands as the most significant barrier in the way of increasing the efficacy of self-tracking.
OBJECTIVE: Most healthcare providers are reluctant to use health apps for healthcare because there is no rigorous way of choosing the best app for their patient or consumer. Accordingly, we developed a new method of app selection that fully considers target users' needs. This study verified whether health apps selected based on target users' needs can influence health-related factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a randomized control trial of women with dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndr
The HITAM-II was found to successfully describe the health consumer's attitude, behavioral intention, and behavior from another perspective. The result serves as the basis for a unique understanding of the user experiences of HIT.
