About the Lab

Professor Jeong-jae Park's research lab specializes in paleoclimatology and environmental change, focusing on high-resolution multiproxy reconstructions of past climate variability in East Asia and the Northern Hemisphere. The lab investigates Holocene climate dynamics, including abrupt climate events, the Holocene Climatic Optimum, and long-term hydroclimate changes, with particular emphasis on monsoonal and ENSO-related variability. Using terrestrial proxy records such as pollen, grain size, organic carbon, and isotopic data, the lab contributes to resolving the 'Holocene conundrum' and improving model-data comparisons. Their work also extends to understanding the role of climate in shaping past ecosystems and human-environment interactions in coastal and island regions of East Asia.
