About the Lab
Professor Jeong Woo-kyung's research lab specializes in medical image analysis, with a focus on advancing non-invasive diagnostic techniques for liver diseases and oncological imaging. The lab develops innovative imaging biomarkers using elastography, radiomics, and deep learning to improve the assessment of liver fibrosis, portal hypertension, and liver tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. A key emphasis is placed on translating these technologies into clinical practice through accurate, automated segmentation and quantitative analysis of abdominal CT and MRI scans. The lab also explores the integration of imaging with genomics to identify imaging surrogates of molecular phenotypes.

15Accurate assessment of the degree of liver fibrosis is important for estimating prognosis and deciding on an appropriate course of treatment for cases of chronic liver disease (CLD) with various etiologies. Because of the inherent limitations of liver biopsy, there is a great need for non-invasive and reliable tests that accurately estimate the degree of liver fibrosis. Ultrasound (US) elastography is considered a non-invasive, convenient, and precise technique to grade the degree of liver fibro
Concurrent advancements in imaging and genomic biomarkers have created opportunities to identify non-invasive imaging surrogates of molecular phenotypes. In order to develop such imaging surrogates radiomics and radiogenomics/imaging genomics will be necessary; there has been consistent progress in these fields for primary liver cancers. In this article we evaluate the current status of the field specifically with regards to hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, highlight

The aim of the study was to introduce our in-house software to measure the muscle and adipose area on axial computed tomography (CT) scans and to compare with various quantification methods. Our institutional review board approved this retrospective study and informed consent was waived. We developed in-house software to identify body composition analysis on CT scan, which semiautomatically operates 3 image processing steps. Abdominal images were obtained using multidetector row CT (MDCT). Two ra
Hepatic CEUS may be more useful in estimating the HVPG value and determining the presence of severe PH compared to DUS, and ITT was the most accurate parameter to diagnose severe PH.
Recent advancements in deep learning have facilitated significant progress in medical image analysis. However, there is lack of studies specifically addressing the needs of surgeons in terms of practicality and precision for surgical planning. Accurate understanding of anatomical structures, such as the liver and its intrahepatic structures, is crucial for preoperative planning from a surgeon's standpoint. This study proposes a deep learning model for automatic segmentation of liver parenchyma,
Sonazoid, a second-generation ultrasound contrast agent, was introduced for the diagnosis of hepatic nodules. To clarify the issues with Sonazoid contrast-enhanced ultrasonography for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the Korean Society of Radiology and Korean Society of Abdominal Radiology collaborated on the guidelines. The guidelines are de novo, evidence-based, and selected using an electronic voting system for consensus. These include imaging protocols, diagnostic criteria fo
OBJECTIVES: To investigate ultrasonographic features of focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver with contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) using Sonazoid (perflubutane; GE Healthcare, Oslo, Norway). METHODS: Thirty-one patients with 31 focal nodular hyperplasia nodules who underwent CEUS using Sonazoid between July 2012 and February 2015 were included in this study. After the microbubble contrast agent was injected, intermittent CEUS images were obtained during the following 4 phases: arterial
Hepatocyte specific contrast agents including gadoxetic acid and gadobenate dimeglumine are very useful to diagnose various benign and malignant focal hepatic lesions and even helpful to estimate hepatic functional reservoir. The far delayed phase image referred to as the hepatobiliary phase makes the sensitivity of detection for malignant focal hepatic lesions increased, but specificity of malignant diseases, including hepatocellular carcinoma, metastasis and cholangiocarcinoma, characterizatio
