About the Lab

Professor Ji Hye Hwang's research lab specializes in digital health and rehabilitation medicine, focusing on innovative, technology-driven solutions to improve physical and psychological outcomes in cancer survivors. The lab investigates the integration of augmented reality (AR)-based telerehabilitation, supervised exercise therapy, and advanced imaging techniques to manage treatment-related complications such as lymphedema, shoulder dysfunction, and fatigue. Key research directions include optimizing postoperative recovery through personalized, remote rehabilitation systems and evaluating predictive biomarkers for treatment response in early-stage lymphedema.

Purpose: Postoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer has a number of associated complications. This study examined whether supervised moderate-intensity exercise could mitigate the complications that occur during radiotherapy. Patients and Methods: Forty women were randomized before radiotherapy after various operations for breast cancer. Seventeen patients who were assigned to the exercise group performed supervised moderate-intensity exercise therapy for 50 min 3 times per week for 5 weeks. T

We investigated whether baseline lymphscintigraphic findings can predict long-term response to complex physical therapy (CPT) in patients with early stage extremity lymphedema. Twenty patients with unilateral extremity lymphedema of clinical stage I or II underwent CPT after baseline lymphscintigraphy. Therapeutic responses (good vs. poor) were evaluated at 1 year post-CPT based on changes in skin status and subjective symptoms, and percent volume reductions and compared with clinical factors an

A digital healthcare system based on augmented reality (AR) has promising uses for postoperative rehabilitation. We compare effectiveness of AR-based and conventional rehabilitation in patients after rotator cuff repair (RCR). This study randomly allocates 115 participants who underwent RCR to digital healthcare rehabilitation group (DR group) and conventional rehabilitation group (CR group). The DR group performs AR-based home exercises using UINCARE Home+, whereas the CR group performs brochur

SJR Q1Telemedicine Journal and e-Health

Introduction: Limited range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder occurs commonly after breast cancer surgery, resulting in reduced quality of life and difficulty with activities of daily living. Physical exercise is effective in postoperative breast cancer patients, but no study has assessed the effects of augmented reality (AR)-based telerehabilitation. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of hospital-home linked rehabilitation therapy using an AR-based digital health care system (U
