About the Lab
Professor Ji Hyun Yang's research lab focuses on the interplay between immune regulation, metabolic dysfunction, and organ injury, particularly in the context of chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and bone metabolism. The lab investigates how gut dysbiosis, adipokines like adiponectin, and microbial components such as lipoteichoic acid influence systemic inflammation, fibrosis, and tissue damage. A central theme is the role of immune modulation—especially via regulatory T cells and cytokine networks—in protecting against renal and hepatic injury. The lab also explores probiotic and metabolic interventions as potential therapeutic strategies.

15Our results suggest that intestinal dysbiosis-associated gut barrier disruption and aberrant mucosal immunity are important for the systemic inflammation and progressive fibrosis of CKD. Targeting the intestine might provide novel therapeutic opportunities for CKD.
