About the Lab

Professor Ji Yeon Lee's research lab focuses on translational cancer biology, particularly the molecular mechanisms of KRAS-driven non-small cell lung cancer and metabolic reprogramming in tumor cells. The lab also investigates genetic and epigenetic factors in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as subtelomeric 6q deletions, and explores systems-level approaches to identify biomarkers for cancer progression. Additionally, the lab applies network and data science methodologies to analyze legislative behavior and organizational dynamics in public administration and human resource systems.

SJR Q1Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: Oncogenic KRAS mutation, the most frequent mutation in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), is an aggressiveness risk factor and leads to the metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells by promoting glucose, glutamine, and fatty acid absorption and glycolysis. Lately, sotorasib was approved by the FDA as a first-in-class KRAS-G12C inhibitor. However, sotorasib still has a derivative barrier, which is not effective for other KRAS mutation types, except for G12C. Additionally, resistance to

Delineation of Subtelomeric Deletion of the Long Arm of Chromosome 6
Ji-Yun Lee, Youl-Hee Cho, Gene Hallford
SJR Q3Annals of Human GeneticsOA

Pure subtelomeric deletion of the long arm of chromosome 6 is rare. The frequency of this deletion accounts for approximately 0.05% of subjects with intellectual disability and developmental delay with or without dysmorphic features. Common phenotypes associated with this deletion include intellectual disability, developmental delay, dysmorphic features, seizure, hypotonia, microcephaly and hypoplasia of the corpus callosum. The smallest overlapped region is approximately 0.4 Mb, and contains th

Potassium chlorate (KClO3) has been widely used to evaluate the divergence in nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) between indica and japonica rice subspecies. This study investigated the transcriptional regulation of major genes involved in the NUE in rice treated with KClO3, which acts as an inhibitor of the reducing activity of nitrate reductase (NR) in higher plants. A set of two KClO3 sensitive nitrate reductase (NR) and two nitrate transporter (NRT) introgression rice lines (BC2F7), carrying the

Colon cancer has been well studied using a variety of molecular techniques, including whole genome sequencing. However, genetic markers that could be used to predict lymph node (LN) involvement, which is the most important prognostic factor for colon cancer, have not been identified. In the present study, we compared LN(+) and LN(-) colon cancer patients using differential gene expression and network analysis. Colon cancer gene expression data were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas and divid

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

The progression of colorectal cancer (CRC) has been well studied and understood with the development of molecular and genetic techniques. However, specific marker(s) that could be used to predict lymph node (LN) involvement, which is the most important prognostic factor for CRC, have not been identified so far. Our previous study, in which network analysis of LN(+) and LN(-) CRC gene expression was carried out with data obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas, led to the identification of AHA1. AH

Shoot branching is considered as an important trait for the architecture of plants and contributes to their growth and productivity. In cereal crops, such as rice, shoot branching is controlled by many factors, including phytohormones signaling networks, operating either in synergy or antagonizing each other. In rice, shoot branching indicates the ability to produce more tillers that are essential for achieving high productivity and yield potential. In the present study, we evaluated the growth

This study evaluated the synergistic effect of curcumin (diferuloylmethane) and hinokitiol (β-thujaplicin), natural product derived phytochemicals, on gefitinib (Iressa) resistant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. Gefitinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), is widely used for lung cancer treatment. However, gefitinib resistance is easily acquired by NSCLC and followed by the development of progressive disease. Curcumin and hinokitiol are well

Many Korean English teachers usually assess learners’ writing according to their subjective judgement without using any rating scale in the writing class. The validity of assessment has been the main issue in the language testing field. This study aims to examine the validity of the assessment categories in their subjective holistic scoring of their EFL students’ English writing. For this purpose, three English teachers at various high schools participated as raters. When assessing given writing

Cancer stem cells, a small subpopulation of cells with stem cell-like characteristics found within most solid tumors, are widely reported to be responsible for the malignancy of aggressive cancer cells, and targeting these cells presents a sound therapeutic strategy for reducing the risk of tumor relapse. In the present study, we examined the effects of an extract of Saccharina japonica (ESJ) on glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs). Saccharina japonica is a member of the Phaeophyceae (brown algae) fam
