About the Lab
Professor Jieun Hwang's research lab focuses on clinical and public health research, particularly in the areas of sepsis management and tobacco control. The lab investigates biomarkers such as monocyte counts to predict outcomes in sepsis patients and explores factors influencing smoking cessation, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. A key emphasis is on developing public health interventions, including school-based education and policy strategies, to reduce tobacco use and its health consequences across the lifespan. The lab also examines behavioral and environmental factors influencing health decisions, such as the impact of graphic health warning labels on tobacco packaging.

7The objective of this study was to examine whether fucosterol, a phytosterol of marine algae, could ameliorate skeletal muscle atrophy in tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)-treated C2C12 myotubes and in immobilization-induced C57BL/6J mice. This paper presents a simulation-based investigation of passive frequency tunability in frequency-selective surfaces (FSSs) enabled by Moiré pattern interference. By overlapping two identical hexagonal FSS layers and introducing rotational misalignment between them, we demonstrate that the resulting Moiré patterns induce significant shifts in the resonance frequency without any external bias or active components.
