About the Lab

Professor Jihun Kim's research lab specializes in advanced materials and nanoelectronic devices, with a strong focus on sustainable energy materials and next-generation semiconductor technologies. The lab investigates kesterite-based chalcogenide semiconductors for high-efficiency thin-film solar cells, employing innovative post-deposition treatments to enhance electronic properties. It also explores nanocomposite materials—particularly polymer/carbon nanotube systems—through in situ polymerization techniques to tailor thermal, electrical, and mechanical performance. Additionally, the lab pioneers novel nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS), including subthreshold-swing NEMFETs, for ultra-low-power, high-frequency electronics. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge materials synthesis, device physics, and energy applications, aiming for scalable and sustainable technological solutions.

Nonisothermal Crystallization Behaviors of Nanocomposites Prepared by In Situ Polymerization of High-Density Polyethylene on Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes
Jihun Kim, Soonjong Kwak, Soon Man Hong, Jae Rock Lee, Atsushi Takahara, Yongsok Seo
SJR Q1Macromolecules

Thermal properties and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of polyolefin nanocomposites (high-density polyethylene/multiwalled carbon nanotubes) were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. In situ metallocence polymerization was used to prepare nanocomposites of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This polymerization method consists of attaching a metallocene catalyst complex onto the surface of the MWCNTs fol

In situ metallocence polymerization was used to prepare nanocomposites of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). This polymerization method consists of attaching a metallocene catalyst complex onto the surface of MWCNT followed by surface-initiated polymerization to generate polymer brushes on the surface. All the procedures of polymerization made progress with one-pot process. The morphological observation of nanocomposites using scanning electron microscopy

Three-Terminal Nanoelectromechanical Field Effect Transistor with Abrupt Subthreshold Slope
Jihun Kim, Zack C. Y. Chen, Soonshin Kwon, Jie Xiang
SJR Q1Nano Letters

We report the first experimental demonstration of a three-terminal nanoelectromechanical field effect transistor (NEMFET) with measurable subthreshold slope as small as 6 mV/dec at room temperature and a switching voltage window of under 2 V. The device operates by modulating drain current through a suspended nanowire channel via an insulated gate electrode, thus eliminating the need for a conducting moving electrode, and yields devices that reliably switch on/off for up to 130 cycles. Radio-fre

Mobile robot with passively articulated driving tracks for high terrainability and maneuverability on unstructured rough terrain: Design, analysis, and performance evaluation
김지훈, 김종원, 이동훈

This study presents a new mobile robot with passively articulated driving tracks for high terrainability (TA) and maneuverability (MA) on unstructured, rough terrain. The mobile robot consists of four driving tracks, two rocker links, and four pitch-roll two-degrees-offreedom (2-DOF) passive joints. For performance evaluation, the proposed mechanism was compared with several existing mechanisms, including four tracked mechanisms and three wheel linkage-type mechanisms. Dynamic simulations of ref

SJR Q1The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

Two novel electron-donor molecules based on donor−π-conjugated linker–acceptor structure with compact packing and intramolecular charge-transfer characteristics were synthesized for the preparation of efficient organic solar cells. The donor molecules featuring an electron-rich triphenyl amine as the electron-donor unit, dicyanovinylene as the acceptor unit, and π-conjugated linkers of thienothiophene, thiophene, and thiazole units were synthesized. The π-conjugated linkers were carefully design

Multilayer Structuring of Nonleaded Metal (BiSn)/Polymer/Tungsten Composites for Enhanced γ‐Ray Shielding
Hoyeon Kim, Junyoung Lim, Jihun Kim, Jungil Lee, Yongsok Seo
SJR Q1Advanced Engineering Materials

To effectively attenuate unrecognized and/or unwanted exposures to high‐energy γ‐rays which leads to occupational hazards when accumulated in a wide range of industries, nonleaded metal (bismuth(Bi)‐tin(Sn))/polymer and tungsten (W) composites are prepared and tested. A eutectic alloy, BiSn, with a low melting temperature of 139 °C, is applied for the first time to prepare a γ‐ray shielding material. Compounding of the BiSn alloy/polymer is conducted in a twin screw mixer/extruder by exploiting

Pre-Existing Depression among Newly Diagnosed Dyslipidemia Patients and Cardiovascular Disease Risk
김지훈, 최상글, 최대인, 박상민
Diabetes and Metabolism Journal

Background: Whether depression before diagnosis of dyslipidemia is associated with higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk among newly diagnosed dyslipidemia patients is yet unclear. Methods: The study population consisted of 72,235 newly diagnosed dyslipidemia patients during 2003 to 2012 from the National Health Insurance Service–Health Screening Cohort of South Korea. Newly diagnosed dyslipidemia patients were then detected for pre-existing depression within 3 years before dyslipidemia diagn

김지훈, 권영우
http://etrij.etri.re.kr/etrij/journal/article/article.do?volume=36&issue=3&page=510

A Q-band pHEMT image-rejection low-noise amplifier (IRLNA)is presented using inter-stage tunable resonators. Theinter-stage L-C resonators can maximize an image rejection byfunctioning as inter-stage matching circuits at an operatingfrequency (FOP) and short circuits at an image frequency (FIM). In addition, it also brings more wideband image rejection thanconventional notch filters. Moreover, tunable varactors in L-Cresonators not only compensate for the mismatch of an imagefrequency induced by

This work provides a comprehensive analytical analysis of one‐selector‐one‐resistor (1S1R) crossbar array (CBA) device for hardware neural network (HNN) applications. Simplified analytical device models are prepared from a particular 1S1R device to validate the analysis. The read margin (RM) analysis results show that the V /3 voltage scheme and reduced selector leakage are necessary to maximize the RM and maximum operable size N of the CBA, where N indicates the number of wires (word line or bi
