About the Lab

Professor Jihye Lee's research lab focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying inflammatory and immune responses in transplantation rejection, neurodegenerative pain conditions, and antiviral defense. The lab investigates key signaling pathways such as the IL-6 amplifier in NF-κB/STAT3 activation, exploring their roles in chronic allograft rejection and autoimmune pathology. Additionally, the lab examines neuroprotective mechanisms of serotonin receptor modulation in chemotherapy-induced neuropathy and evaluates natural compounds—particularly bioactive fractions from black raspberry seeds—for antiviral activity. A recurring theme is the translation of molecular insights into clinical applications for inflammatory diseases and peripheral neuropathy.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of ultrasonography (US) patterns based on the 2015 American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines for malignancy in atypia of undetermined significance or follicular lesion of undetermined significance (AUS/FLUS) nodules. METHODS: From January 2014 to August 2015, 133 thyroid nodules that were initially diagnosed as AUS/FLUS on fine needle aspiration (FNA) were included in this study. Each nodule was assigned a category with

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is known to be frequently associated with venous thromboembolism (VTE). Although treatment and prophylaxis strategies for VTE in PC patients were updated recently, these were mainly based on data from Western populations and were not verified in East Asian ethnic populations. We investigated the clinical characteristics of VTE in East Asian PC patients. We reviewed electronic medical records (EMR) of 1334 patients diagnosed with pancreatic adenocarcinoma from 2005 to 2010 a

SJR Q1The Journal of DermatologyOA

Allergic reactions to mammalian meats are very rare among the adult food allergies. Food allergies usually show rapid onset of symptoms within 1–2 h after ingestion of causative foods. Recently, some patients with episodes of anaphylaxis several hours after eating mammalian meat have been reported.1, 2 Most of these patients showed delayed reactions, usually 3–7 h after ingestion of mammalian meats, however, they had no history of allergic reaction to mammalian meats before these events.

SJR Q1Head & NeckOA

BACKGROUND: For patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), lymph node metastasis is associated with an increased recurrence rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), microvessel density (MVD), and vascular index (VI) can predict lymph node metastasis in patients with PTC. METHODS: From January 2011 to October 2011, 202 patients with PTCs underwent preoperative staging ultrasound evaluation. To evaluate vascularity, we measured

SJR Q3Journal of Clinical Ultrasound

PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical and sonographic (US) features of metastatic tumors from extramammary malignancies to the breast. METHODS: This study included 23 patients with pathologically proven metastases in the breast. Two radiologists retrospectively analyzed the images from US (n = 23), mammography (n = 11), and MRI (n = 5) examinations according to BIRADS. RESULTS: Patients presented with a palpable mass or diffuse breast swelling (21/23) or were asymptomatic (2/23). Eighteen patients h

Pigmented Mammary Paget Disease Misdiagnosed as Malignant Melanoma
Ji Hye Lee, Tae Hyung Kim, Soo‐Chan Kim, You Chan Kim, Mi Ryung Roh
SJR Q3Annals of DermatologyOA

Pigmented mammary Paget disease is a very rare clinicopathologic variant of mammary Paget disease. Diagnosis is often difficult because its clinical and histological features are very similar to those of malignant melanoma. Herein, we report a case of pigmented mammary Paget disease misdiagnosed as malignant melanoma.

occurred in our case. Atypical presentations of tinea faciei can lead to misdiagnosis. The present case underlines that physicians should keep in mind that clinical features of superficial fungal infection can be substantially modified by incorrect treatment, to mimic even herpes simplex virus infection. Fungal infection should be on the list of differential diagnoses of facial eruptions, especially in cases not responding to preceding management.
