About the Lab

Professor Jin Ho Choi's research lab specializes in biomedical and clinical research, with a focus on molecular genetics of growth disorders, regenerative medicine using stem cells, and cardiovascular interventional therapies. The lab investigates genetic causes of growth retardation, such as IGF1R mutations, and explores innovative approaches to myocardial repair through stem cell transplantation. Additionally, the lab contributes to optimizing medical device and treatment strategies in interventional cardiology, including drug-eluting stents and dual antiplatelet therapy adherence. The integration of clinical genetics, stem cell therapy, and interventional cardiology defines the lab’s translational research approach.

CONTEXT: Mutations in the IGF1R gene result in intrauterine growth retardation and postnatal growth failure. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to describe the clinical features of subjects with a mutation in the IGF1R gene and to evaluate the molecular and functional characteristics of a novel IGF1R mutation. SUBJECTS: Three children with unexplained intrauterine growth retardation (birth weight <-1.5 SD score) and persistent short stature (<-2.0 SD score) were included in the study. ME

Background Recently the potential of myocardial repair by transplantation of autologous bone marrow stem cells has been suggested. Whether the additional intracoronary transplantation of autologous peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC), which were mobilized by granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), could safely improve myocardial function in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) was investigated. Methods and Results Seventy-three patients with AMI who had successfully undergone pe

Adaptive subcarrier, bit, and power allocation algorithm for MIMO-OFDMA system
Jin‐Ho Choi, J.S. Kwak, Ho Seok Kim, Jae Hong Lee

We investigate an adaptive subcarrier, bit, and power allocation algorithm for the downlink MIMO-OFDMA system. Using the singular value decomposition, the MIMO fading channel of each subcarrier is transformed into an equivalent bank of parallel SISO sub-channels. For the efficient allocation of the banks of parallel sub-channels, we define the problem of minimizing total transmit power with constraints on BER and transmission rate for users. Using the simplified problem formulation, we propose a

Sounding Method for Proportional Fair Scheduling in OFDMA/FDD Uplink
Jin‐Ho Choi, Hyojin Lee, Hyun Kyu Chung, Jae Hong Lee

Sounding provides a BS with knowledge of the channel state information of a user in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) full duplex division (FDD) uplink. In this paper, we propose a novel sounding subband allocation algorithm for the proportional fair (PF) scheduler. Simulation results show that our proposed sounding method enables the PF scheduler to achieve the throughput gain and guarantee fairness at the same time.

Extended Aortic Arch Replacement Through the L-Incision Approach
Jin‐Ho Choi, Jung-Joo Hwang, Hyun-Min Cho, Tae-Yeon Lee
The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeryOA

There are various methods for approaching the aortic arch, such as median sternotomy or lateral thoracotomy. However, accessing the site of distal anastomosis is problematic when the distal arch is extensively involved. We report a case of extended aortic arch replacement and coronary artery bypass through the L-incision approach.

Impact of medication adherence to dual antiplatelet therapy on the long-term outcome of drug-eluting or bare-metal stents

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

BACKGROUND: In percutaneous coronary intervention, drug-eluting stent (DES) showed better clinical outcome compared to bare-metal stent (BMS) but mostly with different DAPT durations. HYPOTHESIS: The clinical superiority of DES over BMS may depend on the medication adherence to dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled all Koreans PCI patients in year 2011 (n = 47,291). Medication adherence to DAPT was assessed by proportion of days covered (PDC) per 6 months. Analys

The Association between the T102C Polymorphism of the HTR2ASerotonin Receptor Gene and HDL Cholesterol Level in Koreans
최진호, 박경우, 박영배, 오병희, 김효수, Shu-Ying Zhang, Young-Seok Cho, Myoung-Mook Lee

5-HT2A is one of major serotonin receptor that is involved in the action of serotonin-targeting drugs. Previous clinical studies have shown an unexpected association between lower cholesterol level and psychiatric diseases, in which T102C polymorphism of HTR2A, gene of 5-HT2A serotonin receptor, might be involved. Therefore, we hypothesized a potential association between lower cholesterol level and T102C polymorphism. The effect of the T102C polymorphism on the serum lipid profiles of 646 sub

Materials and Methods: 137 eligible patients, with localized or locally advanced prostate cancer, were enrolled from two treatment groups: radical prostatectomy(RP) and external beam radiation therapy(EBRT). To compare changes in the HRQoL and sexual function after treatment wit

In this real-world data analysis, patients taking FDC of ARB and statin showed higher medication persistence and adherence compared to patients taking FC of ARB and statin up to 540 days. The risk of all-cause death was not different between FDC and FC despite better medication compliance in the FDC patients.
