About the Lab
Professor Jin-Sun Park's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disorders, and metabolic syndrome. The lab investigates neuroprotective agents such as natural compounds (e.g., isoflavone metabolites and β-lapachone) in models of Parkinson’s disease and oxidative stress, while also exploring biomarkers like neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and epicardial adipose tissue thickness in predicting cardiovascular outcomes. Additionally, the lab evaluates clinical interventions, including fixed-dose combination therapies for hypertension and dyslipidemia, aiming to improve treatment adherence and patient outcomes. The research integrates molecular mechanisms with clinical applications, particularly in aging-related and metabolic diseases.

In this study, we found that two isoflavone metabolites (tectorigenin and glycitein) inhibited hydrogen peroxide-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and subsequent cell death in rat primary astrocytes.
