About the Lab
Professor Jisu Kim's research lab specializes in clinical and neuroimaging studies of vestibular disorders, with a focus on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying dizziness and balance disorders. The lab investigates conditions such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), persistent postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD), and orthostatic dizziness using advanced neuroimaging techniques like resting-state fMRI and quantitative nystagmography. Key research directions include identifying brain network alterations in vestibular patients, validating diagnostic criteria for disorders like hemodynamic orthostatic dizziness, and evaluating the efficacy of repositioning maneuvers in treating specific BPPV subtypes. The lab integrates clinical neurology, functional neuroimaging, and machine learning to improve diagnosis and treatment of vestibular pathologies.

15Previous studies have identified microplastics (MPs) in commercial table salts but could not exactly address the origin of the MPs because of several limitations. The present study is based on the hypothesis that commercial sea salts can act as an indicator of MP pollution in the surrounding environment unless the MPs are filtered out during the manufacturing process. A total of 39 different salt brands produced at geospatially different sites, including 28 sea salt brands from 16 countries/regi
This study aims to examine the associations between nurses' perceptions of patient safety culture, patient safety competency, and adverse events. Using convenience sampling, we conducted a cross-sectional study from February to May 2018 in two university hospitals. Furthermore, we performed multiple logistic regression to examine associations between patient safety culture, patient safety competency, and adverse events. Higher mean scores for "communication openness" in patient safety culture we
PURPOSE: Clinical competence among nurses is an essential requirement for the provision of safe and effective patient care. This study aims to classify types of professional quality of life experienced by Korean nurses, and examine the relationship between demographic and professional characteristics and clinical competence among nurses experiencing each type. METHODS: A total of 335 nurses completed questionnaires assessing professional quality of life, clinical competence, and demographic and
BACKGROUND: In the changing medical environment, professional stress continuously increases as the individual's quality of life suffers. Of all the healthcare professions, nursing is especially prone to burnout, compassion fatigue and reduced compassion satisfaction, due to the tensions resulting from the physical and psychological stress of caring for extremely ill patients. OBJECTIVES: This study examined the professional quality of life of clinical nurses in Korea and the relationship between
In this paper, a new on-road vehicle detection method is presented. First, a new feature named the Position and Intensity-included Histogram of Oriented Gradients (PIHOG or πHOG) is proposed. Unlike the conventional HOG, πHOG compensates the information loss involved in the construction of a histogram with position information, and it improves the discriminative power using intensity information. Second, a new search space reduction (SSR) method is proposed to speed up the detection and reduce t
BACKGROUND: With increased attention to patient privacy and autonomy, privacy protection and information provision for patients are becoming increasingly important. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to identify and analyse nurses' and patients' perceptions of the importance and performance of protecting patients' privacy and providing them with relevant information. RESEARCH DESIGN: This study is a descriptive cross-sectional investigation. Participants and research context: Participants wer
AIM: We examined Korean nurses professional quality of life, emotional labour and workplace violence to guide development of interventions to improve nurses professional quality of life. BACKGROUND: Nurses face heavy exposure to emotional labour and workplace violence. Stress experienced by nurses reduces compassion satisfaction and increases compassion fatigue. METHODS: Participants comprised 399 clinical nurses chosen by convenience sampling. Questionnaires measured demographic characteristics
This study examined the relationship between alcohol consumption and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in a nationally representative sample of middle-aged to older South Koreans. Data collected from 3,408 men and 3,361 women aged ≥ 40 years were obtained from the 2010 and 2011 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Based on the World Health Organization guidelines, the participants were categorized into zones I (0-7), II (8-15), III (16-19), or IV (20-40) according to thei
Given the energy-related accidents and issues in our society, public perceptions of specific energy technologies are a fundamental concern while formulating local and national energy plans. As an approach toward addressing these perceptions, the current study was aimed at collecting user-created contents on renewable energy in a topic-based social network service. A word network model in social network services (SNS) was proposed, and a network analysis was conducted for examining the public per
AIMS: To test a model of the relationship between nurses' burnout and emotional labour using structural equation modelling to identify the mediating effects of workplace violence. BACKGROUND: Nurses are a group that experiences high emotional labour and are exposed to various types of violence in the clinical setting. Burnout is related to emotional labour and exposure of workplace violence, but alternatives to reduce burnout in the context of emotional labour (e.g., reduction in workplace viole
This study found an association between sensory impairment and suicide ideation in elderly individuals. Therefore, it seems necessary that interventions that reduce or prevent sensory impaired elders' suicide ideation are needed, which may be an indicator of mental health problems or poor quality of life.
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the use of e-cigarettes, which are regarded as alternatives to traditional cigarettes and are easy to purchase, with suicidal behaviors in adolescents. METHODS: Data for 5405 middle and high school students aged 13-18 years who had used e-cigarettes were extracted from the 2016 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey and analyzed using multiple logistic regression. RESULTS: Among those who used e-cigarettes for 1-30 days
