About the Lab

Professor Jong-Bok Byun's research lab focuses on intelligent health systems and ubiquitous computing, particularly in aging populations. The lab develops IoT-based wireless sensor networks for chronic disease management—especially diabetes—targeting older adults who face challenges in self-care. It also explores real-time communication systems, QoS architectures for emerging network services, and the sociotechnical impact of digital platforms, including online hate speech and content moderation. The lab integrates technology with human-centered design to improve healthcare accessibility and digital communication infrastructure.

온라인에서 발생하고 있는 젠더 혐오표현에 대한 기존 연구들 대부분은 법적규제 및 혐오의 대응 방안에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 본 연구에서는 젠더 이슈에 대한 뉴스 기사에 달린 댓글을 빅데이터의 텍스트마이닝 기법으로 분석하여 젠더 혐오표현의 변화양상을 파악하고자 하였다. 우리나라의 대표적인 포털사이트인 네이버와 다음에 게시된 보수 및 진보성향 신문 매체의 성차별 관련 기사에 달린 댓글을 분석한 결과, 젠더 혐오표현은 시간의 흐름에 따라 지속적으로 증가하고 있으며, 특정 젠더 이슈 발생 시 일시적으로 증가한 후 빠르게 감소하는 추세를 발견할 수 있었다. 이런 추세는 신문 매체의 정치적 성향과 무관했으나, 차별과 혐오표현에 대한 신고제를 운영하고 있는 다음의 경우 그렇지 않은 네이버에 비해 젠더 혐오표현의 수가 크게 적은 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 기존 연구에서 제시된 젠더 혐오표현의 변화양상을 실증적으로 분석하였으며, 흔히 방관자 혹은 게이트키퍼로 분류되는 포털사이트가 젠더 혐오표현을 줄
