About the Lab
Professor Jong-pyo Lim's research lab specializes in clinical microbiology, infectious disease immunology, and biomarker discovery for cancer and renal dysfunction. The lab investigates antibiotic resistance mechanisms in pathogenic bacteria such as *Pseudomonas* species, explores host immune responses to viral infections like cytomegalovirus and human papillomavirus, and identifies novel diagnostic and therapeutic targets for gastric and cervical cancers using immunological and molecular techniques. The lab also focuses on improving renal function assessment through novel biomarkers such as cystatin C, aiming to enhance early detection and management of kidney disease.

배 경 : 혈관통로 (vascular access)의 기능부전은 투석환자에서 이환율의 가장 중요한 원인이다. 최근 MIA (Malnutrition, Inflammation, Atherosclerosis) syndrome이 알려지면서 투석환자에서 죽상경화증 (atherosclerosis)과 염증간의 관련성이 부각되었다. 혈액투석환자들의 혈관통로 협착과 죽상경화증의 조직학적 유사성을 생각할 때 염증매개성 물질에 의한 만성염증반응이 죽상경화증을 촉진시키는 것처럼 혈관통로의 협착도 촉진시킬 수 있다는 가설을 세워볼 수 있다. 따라서 혈관통로협착이 혈청의 염증매개성 싸이토카인 (cytokine)과 관련성이 있는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 방 법 : 혈액투석을 받는 환자 72명을 대상으로 하여 ELISA를 이용하여 interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (INF-γ)의 혈청농도 및 염증표지자로써 C-반응단백, ferr
배경: 본 연구에서는 임상 화학 검사 현장 검사 기기인 Abbot사의 i-STAT CHEM8+를 이용하여 Na+, K+, Cl−, tCO2, BUN, Creatinine, Glucose, iCa를 포함하는 8가지 기본 화학 검사 항목에 대한 측정 능력을 평가하였다. 방법: 상기 8가지 항목에 대하여 CLSI의 기준을 이용하여 정밀도, 직선성을 평가하였고, 대형 검사 기기(Hitachi Clinical Analyzer 7600과 NOVA CCX)와 i-STAT CHEM8+ 간의 기기 간 상관성 평가를 실시하였다. 통계 분석은 Microsoft excel과 Analyse-it을 통하여 시행하였다. 결과: 검사차례내 정밀도와 총 정밀도의 표준편차는 Cl−를 제외한 7가지 항목에서 제조사에서 제시한 표준편차 또는 verification value 내로 우수한 결과를 보였다. 총 정밀도는 변이계수가 creatinine을 제외한 7가지 항목에서 2% 내로 우수한 결과를 보였다. 직선성 평가에서
Plasma hemoglobin (pHb) is measured when hemolysis is suspected as a result of biochemical, immunological, and mechanical conditions. In this study, we evaluated the clinical feasibility of the hemolysis index (H-index) for pHb measurement using automated chemistry analyzers.
