About the Lab

Professor Ju-Hyun Park's research lab focuses on regenerative medicine and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, with a strong emphasis on extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their therapeutic potential. The lab investigates stem cell-derived exosomes and plant-derived extracellular vesicles for tissue repair, particularly in skin aging and chronic wound healing. Additionally, the lab explores targeted protein degradation strategies, such as PROTAC technology, for novel therapeutic development. The research integrates molecular biology, regenerative medicine, and translational applications to address aging-related and neurodegenerative disorders.

SJR Q1BMC GeriatricsOA

BACKGROUND: The lack of adequate and detailed epidemiological data of Parkinson's disease (PD), especially in Asia, is a barrier to future disease burdens and the prospect of effective public health plans. This study aimed to investigate temporal trends in the incidence and prevalence of PD in South Korea from 2010 to 2015, based on uniform diagnostic criteria. METHODS: This study examined all PD patients registered in a South Korean national registry database of more than 50 million individuals

SJR Q1ThyroidOA

Background: The association of metabolic syndrome and its components with the risk of thyroid cancer is unclear. Thus, we conducted a large-scale, nationwide, population-based, cohort study to investigate this relationship. Methods: We studied 9,890,917 adults without thyroid cancer from the Korean National Health Insurance health checkup database from January 1 to December 31, 2009. Individuals with at least three of the following five components were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome: abdomina

disease Parkinson disease stroke P arkinson disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder and affects 1% to 3% of people aged >65 years. As life expectancy increases, the prevalence and burden of PD increase worldwide. Although epidemiologic studies have consistently reported high PD-associated mortality, 2 the relationship between PD and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), the leading cause of death, remains unclear. CVDs, such as myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic stroke, and

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical Oncology

PURPOSE Although the incidence of young-onset digestive tract cancers is increasing worldwide, their risk factors remain largely unknown. We investigated the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and young-onset digestive tract cancers. PATIENTS AND METHODS This nationwide cohort study included 5,265,590 individuals age 20-39 years who underwent national health screening under the Korean National Health Insurance Service between 2009 and 2012. The fatty liver index was use

The association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the risk of pancreatic cancer in the general population remains unclear. This nationwide cohort study included 8,120,674 adults who underwent a national health screening in 2009 from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database. Participants were followed-up until December 2017 for the development of pancreatic cancer. NAFLD was assessed using the fatty liver index: ≥ 60, NAFLD and < 30, no NAFLD. Multivariable Cox pr

SJR Q1BMC GeriatricsOA

BACKGROUND: Patients with peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are more likely to receive long-term therapy with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). This study aimed to investigate the risk of osteoporotic fractures in PPI users compared to histamine-2 receptor antagonist (H2RA) users and the association between fractures and the duration and regular use of PPI. METHODS: A population-based, nationwide nested case-control study from January 2006 to December 2015 was pe
