About the Lab
Professor Jun Ho Lee's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, through the development and validation of culturally adapted cognitive assessment tools such as CERAD-K. The lab also investigates molecular mechanisms in epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMT) and signaling pathways involving TGF-β and RAS-MAPK in cancer and fibrosis. Additionally, the lab explores clinical oncology aspects, including synchronous cancers in gastric cancer patients and the prognostic significance of clinical staging. The integration of clinical, molecular, and technological approaches—such as intrusion detection systems in cloud computing—demonstrates a multidisciplinary research scope with strong clinical relevance.

15A Korean version of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Packet (CERAD-K) was created. The English-American version of CERAD clinical and neuropsychological assessment batteries was translated into Korean, and the psychometrical properties of the cognitive tests in the CERAD-K were established. In the translation, including back-translation, the basic structures of all measures in the original CERAD batteries were maintained. The CERAD-K was administered in a
TGF-β plays a prominent role as an inducer of epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMTs) during development and wound healing and in disease conditions such as fibrosis and cancer. During these processes EMT occurs together with changes in cell proliferation, differentiation, communication, and extracellular matrix remodeling that are orchestrated by multiple signaling inputs besides TGF-β. Chief among these inputs is RAS-MAPK signaling, which is frequently required for EMT induction by TGF-β. Re
Cloud Computing is a new type of service which provides large scale computing resource to each customer. Cloud Computing systems can be easily threatened by various cyber attacks, because most of Cloud Computing systems provide services to so many people who are not proven to be trustworthy. Therefore, a Cloud Computing system needs to contain some Intrusion Detection Systems(IDSs) for protecting each Virtual Machine(VM) against threats. In this case, there exists a tradeoff between the security
Synchronous cancers in gastric cancer patients are not infrequent. The physicians should try to find synchronous cancers in gastric cancer patients, especially in the elderly with a differentiated early gastric cancer.
Cochlear outer sulcus cells (OSC) and vestibular transitional cells (VTC) are part of the parasensory epithelium in the inner ear and are located in homologous positions between the sensory hair cells and the cation secretory epithelial cells in the cochlea and the vestibular labyrinth. OSC are known to sustain a reabsorptive transepithelial current and to contain an immunoreactivity for P2X(2) purinergic receptors. This study addresses whether OSC and VTC share functional similarities and exten
Clinical stage is an independent predictor of long-term survival in the preoperative setting. It should be incorporated as a stratification factor in a randomized clinical trial of preoperative therapy for gastric cancer patients.
BACKGROUND: The Quality of Recovery-40 (QoR-40) is a widely-used, self-rated, and self-completed questionnaire for postoperative patients. The questionnaire is intended to elicit information from each patient regarding the quality of recovery during the postoperative period. It is noteworthy, however, that an official Korean version of the QoR-40 (QoR-40K) has not been established. The purpose of this study was to develop the QoR-40K by translation and cultural adaptation process and to evaluate
Inflammation is a key regulatory process in cancer development. Prolonged exposure of breast tumor cells to inflammatory cytokines leads to epithelial-mesenchymal transition, which is the principal mechanism involved in metastasis and tumor invasion. Interleukin (IL)-1β is a major inflammatory cytokine in a variety of tumors. To date, the regulatory mechanism of IL-1β-induced cell migration and invasion has not been fully elucidated. Here, we investigated the effect of zerumbone (ZER) on IL-1β-i
Abstract Gold nanoparticles are formed to cover the surface of sulfonated‐polystyrene (PS) beads by the in‐situ ion‐exchange and chemical reduction of a stable cationic gold ligand, which makes it different from the physical adsorption or multiple electroless metallization methods. PS beads are synthesized by dispersion polymerization with a diameter of 2.7 µm, and their surface is modified by introducing sulfonic acid groups (SO ) to give an ion exchange capacity of up to 2.25 mequiv. · g −1 ,
OBJECTIVES: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common cancer with high rate of recurrence and mortality. Diverse aetiological agents and wide heterogeneity in individual tumours impede effective and personalised treatment. Tonicity-responsive enhancer-binding protein (TonEBP) is a transcriptional cofactor for the expression of proinflammatory genes. Although inflammation is intimately associated with the pathogenesis of HCC, the role of TonEBP is unknown. We aimed to identify function of TonEBP
