About the Lab
Professor Jung Eun Cheon's research lab specializes in medical imaging and radiology, with a focus on advanced neuroimaging techniques for diagnosing and monitoring neurological disorders. The lab investigates the role of MRI and CT in identifying subtle brain and lung abnormalities in pediatric and adult patients, particularly in conditions such as leukodystrophies, eosinophilic pneumonia, and pediatric fractures. A key area of innovation involves applying deep learning algorithms to improve diagnostic accuracy in conventional radiographic imaging. The lab also explores the long-term effects of contrast agents on brain structures, contributing to safer and more precise radiological practices.

15Dysmyelinating diseases, or leukodystrophies, encompass a wide spectrum of inherited neurodegenerative disorders affecting the integrity of myelin in the brain and peripheral nerves. Most of these disorders fall into one of three categories-lysosomal storage diseases, peroxisomal disorders, and diseases caused by mitochondrial dysfunction-and each leukodystrophy has distinctive clinical, biochemical, pathologic, and radiologic features. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has become the primary imag
Findings of chronic segmental air-space consolidation that contained low-attenuation areas with peripheral enhancement or adjacent pleural thickening at CT were suggestive of thoracic actinomycosis.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop a dual-input convolutional neural network (CNN)-based deep-learning algorithm that utilizes both anteroposterior (AP) and lateral elbow radiographs for the automated detection of pediatric supracondylar fracture in conventional radiography, and assess its feasibility and diagnostic performance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: To develop the deep-learning model, 1266 pairs of AP and lateral elbow radiographs examined between January 2013 and December 2017 at a singl
Initial and follow-up chest radiographs, chest CT scans (n = 5) and clinical data in six patients with acute eosinophilic pneumonia were reviewed by two chest radiologists. The predominant initial radiographic finding was diffuse bilateral reticular densities (four [67%] of six patients). Areas of ground-glass opacity were observed on CT scans in all patients (5 of 5) and were bilateral, random, and patchy in distribution in four (80%) of five patients. Smooth septal thickening and pleural effus
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify the signal intensity (SI) changes in the dentate nucleus (DN) and the globus pallidus (GP) on unenhanced T1-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images after multiple administration of gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) in children and compare those changes between linear and macrocyclic GBCAs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board and the requirement for informed consent was waived. We iden
PURPOSE: Our goal was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of subjective visual assessment versus MR volumetry in evaluating hippocampal sclerosis and to determine whether MR volumetry is needed in the lateralization of this disease process. METHODS: MR imaging findings were studied retrospectively in 48 patients who underwent surgery for temporal lobe epilepsy and were compared with findings at MR volumetry on an Allegro workstation. Both visual assessment and volumetry were carried out in a blin
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether there is a correlation between liver MR findings and the clinical manifestations and severity of liver dysfunction in patients with Wilson's disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two radiologists retrospectively evaluated MR images of the liver in 50 patients with Wilson's disease. The Institutional Review Board approved this retrospective study and informed consent was waived. MR images were evaluated with a focus on hepatic contour abnormalities and the presence of in
OBJECTIVES: Currently, the prevention of recurrent immediate hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to contrast media (CM) requests premedication and changing the culprit contrast agent. However, strategies for the prevention of immediate HSRs to gadolinium-based magnetic resonance contrast agents (GBCAs) have not yet been established. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of changing the contrast agent and single-dose premedication for HSR recurrence prevention in patients with a history of
Pulmonary metastases from osteosarcoma could be differentiated from non-metastases by using computerized texture analysis. Higher mean attenuation and larger diameter were significant predictors for pulmonary metastases, while higher mean attenuation was a significant predictor for small non-calcified pulmonary metastases.
MR imaging was helpful for evaluating growth plate modifications and subsequent changes after fat graft interposition. Fat graft interposition had a role in reducing growth disturbance in growth plate injury.
