About the Lab
Professor Junsang Lee's research lab specializes in interdisciplinary health and economic policy research, focusing on reconstructive surgery outcomes, health insurance systems, and macroeconomic dynamics. The lab investigates clinical challenges in complex tissue and bone reconstruction, particularly using advanced microsurgical techniques, while also analyzing the macroeconomic impacts of fiscal and tax policies on foreign direct investment. Additionally, the lab explores behavioral and welfare implications of universal health insurance in heterogeneous, financially incomplete economies, integrating econometric modeling with real-world data. A strong emphasis is placed on translating empirical findings into practical health and economic policy recommendations.

15Wide, complex defects of the scalp caused by various insults always represent reconstructive challenges for surgeons. Our study group consisted of 18 patients (14 males and 4 females) with a mean age of 40.2 years. Nineteen free-tissue transfers were used to reconstruct the scalp defects. The selected cases included 8 latissimus dorsi muscle flaps, 3 latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flaps, 2 rectus abdominis muscle flaps, 3 omental flaps, 1 scapular flap, 1 radial forearm flap, and 1 groin flap. Tw
The preferential tax policies for foreign direct investment (FDI) in China were terminated by a tax reform in 2008. This article uses the provincial-level panel data for 1998‒2008 before the reform in order to study whether the tax incentive had been a significant determinant of foreign investment decisions. We find that market size and geographic location had significant impacts on the FDI inflow into China but the tax incentive policies were not a sufficient determinant of FDI inflow into Chin
We explore how the informational frictions underlying monetary exchange affect international exchange rate dynamics. Our perfectly flexible price model is capable of producing endogenously rigid international relative prices in response to technology and monetary shocks. The model is capable of accounting for the empirical regularities that the real and nominal exchange rates are more volatile than U.S. output, and that the two are positively and perfectly correlated. The model is also consisten
The reconstruction of large skeletal defects secondary to osteomyelitis is a challenging problem. This paper reports on the treatment of bone defects caused by osteomyelitis of the radius using an Ilizarov distraction technique and a vascularized fibular graft. A 25-year-old man first presented with a right radial defect caused by osteomyelitis when he was 3 years old. His right forearm was shortened and angulated with a dislocation of the distal radio-ulnar joint. The defect in the radial shaft
This paper aims to investigate impacts of public provision of universal health insurance (UHI) in an environment with household heterogeneity and financial market incompleteness. Various UHI polices with both distortionary and nondistortionary financing methods are compared to address the trade-off between risk reduction and tax distortion, as well as the corresponding welfare implications. We use a dynamic equilibrium model with endogenous insurance choice and labor supply decisions to perform
Abstract We study the economic fluctuations in China by using a standard neoclassical general equilibrium model to provide a structural analysis. We have carefully constructed measurements for economic variables from Chinese data to be consistent with the literature. We show that the government spending behaviour plays an important role in accounting for the changes in the pattern of both absolute and relative volatilities. Although we find that a general moderation in economic fluctuations afte
Many types of upper lip reconstruction have been introduced to treat defects after a tumor excision or trauma. The authors treated two cases of upper lip defects. A 35-year-old woman presented with a squamous cell carcinoma of the left upper lip that had invaded the corner of the mouth. After resecting the tumor, the defect was 3.7×3.5 cm in size. A 52-year-old woman presented with a dog bite of the right upper lip. The defect measured 4.0×2.2 cm in size. The two cases were reconstructed by comb
We report three new records Korean marine gastropods. The new record species are Hipponix acuta, Lyncina (Ponda) carneola, and Velutina (Velutella) plicatilis cryptospira. As a result, the family Hipponicidae in Korea turned out to be 5 species of 4 genera, Cypraeidae are 14 species of 8 genera, and Velutinidae are 7 species of 3 genera, respectively.
Up until now, we have identified 17 exotic species of Mollusca in Korea. These include Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica, Limax flavus, Limax marginatus, Deroceras reticulatum, Hawaiia minuscula, Zonitoides yessoensis, Zonitoides arboreus, Physa acuta, Pomacea canaliculata, Pomacea insularus, Crepidula (Crepidula) onyx, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Xenotrobus securis, Perna viridis, Argopecten irradians irradians, Pinctada fucata, and Pinctada margaritifera. Among them Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica,
These studies describe about genus Nordotis (Nordotis madaka, N. gigantea, N. discus discus, N. discus hannai) and suggest the taxonomic key. Also, adjustment and suggestion that confused Korean names in the Nordotis species from Korea.
This study investigates the relationship between market power, as measured by aggregate markups, and income inequality across 34 countries between 1991 and 2016. We find that market power is positively associated with income inequality in developing countries, while the relationship between markups and income inequality in advanced economies is more nuanced and statistically insignificant. Our study reveals that a higher collective bargaining rights mitigate the impact of market power on income
