About the Lab

Professor Kwang Soo Kim's research lab focuses on biomedical and agricultural biotechnology, with a strong emphasis on stem cell biology, gene delivery systems, and disease modeling. The lab investigates the optimization of lentiviral vectors for stable gene expression in embryonic stem cells and develops cell sorting strategies—such as FACS using lineage-specific promoters—to generate pure populations of functional neurons for regenerative medicine. Additionally, the lab applies advanced modeling techniques, including fuzzy logic and classification and regression trees, to predict plant disease development (e.g., soybean rust and leaf wetness duration) using meteorological and biological data, supporting precision agriculture and disease management. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge regenerative medicine and agricultural systems biology to address both human health and food security challenges.
