한국역사에서 최초로 만들어진 國歌는 <대한제국 애국가>로 지금까지 독일음악인 프란츠 에케르트가 1901년 또는 1902년 ‘작곡’한 것으로 알려져 있다. 하지만, 본 연구는 에케르트의 멜로디가 1896년 2월에 발표된 헐버트의 Korean Vocal Music에 수록된 민요와 매우 흡사함을 발견하여 우리는 지금까지 에케르트와 <대한제국 애국가>에 대한 기존 연구를 재검토하였다. 그 결과는 에케르트의 애국가에 결정적인 영향을 미친 것은 ‘아악’이 아니라 ‘민요’였음이 밝혀졌는데, 정리해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오늘의 관점에서 보면 에케르트는 <대한제국 애국가>의 ‘작곡가’라기 보다 ‘편곡자’라고 칭해야 정확한 것이 된다. 둘째, 에케르트가 헐버트가 채보한 “바람이 분다”를 애국가를 만드는 데 선택함으로서 “아리랑”과 달리 ‘國歌’라는 서양음악 장르로 다시 태어나게 되었다. 민요의 채보가 쉽지 않고, 당시 서양악보로 채보된 것이 전무한 상황에서 헐버트의 채보는 의도 하지는 않았지만,

“상처 입은 용”이라는 수식어가 따라다니는 윤이상은 세계적인 음악가가 되었지만, 자신의 문화와의 단절에서 받은 깊은 상처가 그의 삶과 작품세계에 드리워져 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지금까지 망명음악가로서 윤이상의 작품세계를 고려한 연구는 거의 없다 해도 과언이 아니다. 본 논문은 “권력을 향해 진실을 말하려는” 예술가로 불편한 삶을 살았던 윤이상의 삶과 작품에 남긴 망명의 흔적을 살펴보았는데, 먼저 윤이상이 어떤 과정에서 망명자가 되었는지 추적해보았다. 유럽음악의 타자로서 그의 고민이 결국 그를 망명인이 되게 만드는 결과를 초래했다고 보기 때문이다. 다음 단계에서 정치적 망명이 윤이상의 작품세계에 미친 영향을 분석했다. 윤이상이 한국의 감옥에서 석방되어 1969년 망명자가 되었다고 해서 바로 작품에 변화가 나타나는 것은 아니었다. 어차피 말로 표현하기 힘든 경험을 소화하여 예술적으로 형상화하는 작업은 매우 간접적이고, 서서히 진행되어 나타나기 때문이다. 윤이상에게 이런 변화는 1970

본고는 식민지 시기 한국사회에서 서양음악이 어떻게 수용되었는지에 대한 연구이다. 연구를 시작하는 근본적 질문은 두 가지이다. 하나는 20세기 초반 여전히 전통음악을 향유하는 사람들이 많았음에도 불구하고, 어떻게 서양음악이 이 오랜 ‘터줏대감’ 전통음악을 몰아내고 대신 주인 행세를 하게 되었는가, 다른 하나는 식민지 통치는 이 과정에서 어떤 역할을 했는가이다. 이런 의문을 풀기 위해 첫째, 서양음악이 20세기 초반 한반도에서 수용된 배경과 의미를 당시 잡지, 신문, 소설 등의 자료를 바탕으로 다양한 측면에서 살펴보고, 이를 크게 6가지로 정리해 보았다. 둘째, 이 시기는 일본 식민지라는 큰 정치적 테두리를 떼어놓고 생각할 수 없으므로, 이러한 서양음악의 수용이 식민지라는 전제 조건과 어떻게 상호 작용하는지, 어떤 정치적 의미를 함축할 수 있는지 내선일체 이데올로기와 관련하여 논의했다. 따라서 본 논문은 결국 음악과 사회 정치의 관계를 밝히는 결과가 되리라 기대된다.

Primary osteosarcoma of the sphenoid bone is an extremely rare condition. This paper presents a case of a lady with recurrent oesteosarcoma of the sphenoid bone who had resection of the tumour via a combined neurosurgical and craniofacial procedure and reconstruction with a free flap and bone graft. It details the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of this unusual condition.
