About the Lab

Professor Kyung Soo Jung's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on clinical genomics, infectious disease epidemiology, and critical care biomarkers. The lab investigates genomic alterations in cancer using archival formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues, explores risk factors and outcomes in multidrug-resistant bacterial infections like carbapenem-resistant *Acinetobacter baumannii* bacteremia, and evaluates novel biomarkers such as serum cystatin C for early detection and prognosis of acute kidney injury in septic patients. The lab integrates molecular diagnostics with clinical data to improve patient outcomes in intensive care and oncology settings.

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Formalin fixing with paraffin embedding (FFPE) has been a standard sample preparation method for decades, and archival FFPE samples are still very useful resources. Nonetheless, the use of FFPE samples in cancer genome analysis using next-generation sequencing, which is a powerful technique for the identification of genomic alterations at the nucleotide level, has been challenging due to poor DNA quality and artificial sequence alterations. In this study, we performed whole-exome sequencing of m

To assess the risk factors for carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB)bacteremia and for 30-day mortality in patients with CRAB bacteremia in the intensive care unit (ICU), we conducted a retrospective study in the ICU at Severance Hospital in Korea from January 2008 to December 2009. Patients who acquired CRAB bacteremia in the ICU were enrolled as the case group and patients whose specimens of blood culture,sputum/endotracheal aspirate and urine revealed no AB were enrolled as cont

Purpose: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in critically ill patients. Serum cystatin C has emerged as a reliable marker of AKI. We sought to assess the value of serum cystatin C for early detection and prediction of renal function recovery in patients with sepsis. Materials and Methods: Sepsis patients (113 AKI patients and 49 non-AKI patients) admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) were included. Serum creatinine and cystatin C levels and glomerular filtration rate were measured on days 0

A 65nm CMOS low-power small-size multistandard, multiband mobile broadcasting receiver SoC
Minsu Jeong, Bonkee Kim, Young-ho Cho, Yang‐Gyun Kim, Se-Yeob Kim, Heeyong Yoo, Junghwan Lee, Jae Kwan Lee, Kyung Soo Jung, Jei-Young Lee, Jung-Hun Lee, Huikwan Yang

For a few years, new mobile broadcasting services were launched in Korea, Japan, Europe and China. The mobile broadcasting markets are maturing rapidly for applications such as mobile cellular phones, car navigation, PMP and so on. The market drives low-cost, low-power and small size significantly for mobile applications and drives multiple functionality and multiple bands [1]. To meet the market requirements, more integration of system blocks and functionality is needed. To achieve this goal, t

SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

In 2007, the Korean Interstitial Lung Disease Society had collected clinical data of patients who have diagnosed as Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) since 1990 through nationwide survey, which showed that LAM patients had increased sharply after 2004. The present study was performed to show the clinical features of Korean patients with LAM, and to establish the reason for the recent increase in the diagnosis. All 63 patients were women and the mean age at diagnosis was 36 yr. The most common prese

곽세현, Ji Soo Choi, 이은혜, 이수환, Ah Young Leem, 이상훈, 김송이, 정경수, 정지예, 박무석, 김영삼, 장준

Background/Aims: Delayed diagnosis and treatment of smear-negative pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) are major concerns for TB control. We evaluated characteristics of patients with smear-negative pulmonary TB who received a delayed diagnosis and identified risk factors that may have contributed to this delay. Methods: We reviewed medical records of patients with smear-negative culturepositive pulmonary TB treated at a tertiary care hospital in South Korea between January 2017 and December 2018. Patie

Purpose: We aimed to determine the relationship between environmental exposure and nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonarydisease (NTM-PD) in Korea. Materials and Methods: A group of 150 patients with NTM-PD and a control group of 217 patients with other respiratory diseaseswere prospectively enrolled between June 2018 and December 2020 in Seoul, Korea. They were surveyed with a standardizedquestionnaire, and their medical records were reviewed. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) w

Purpose: Isoniazid (INH) mono-resistant tuberculosis (Hr-TB) is a highly prevalent type of drug-resistant TB, possibly associatedwith unfavorable treatment outcomes. However, definitive guidelines on an optimal treatment regimen and duration for Hr-TBare currently under discussion. We evaluated the characteristics and treatment outcomes of Hr-TB patients. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of Hr-TB patients treated at a South Korean tertiary referralhospital f

Perception of Child Abuse and Child Disciplinary Practice among Adults Abused as Children: Comparison to General Population
Ka Young Moon, So Young Irene Lee, A Reum Lee, Ka Yeong An, Kyung Soo Jung, Kyoung-Il Paek, Hyun Ah Kang, Ji Young Kang, Shun Ah Chung
SJR Q2Journal of korean Academy of Child and Adolescent PsychiatryOA

The results suggest that adults with a history of childhood abuse have lower levels of knowledge of child abuse and use more negative disciplinary practices in raising their children. This highlights the need to administer not only educational but also more direct hands-on interventions to vulnerable parents in order to foster healthy parenting and disciplinary practices.

There is no well-stated practical guideline for mechanically ventilated patients with or without acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). We generate strong (1) and weak (2) grade of recommendations based on high (A), moderate (B) and low (C) grade in the quality of evidence. In patients with ARDS, we recommend low tidal volume ventilation (1A) and prone position if it is not contraindicated (1B) to reduce their mortality. However, we did not support high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (1B

Background: Hyperbilirubinemia and hypoalbuminemia are frequently appeared and associated with poor prognosis in critically ill patients. We aim to evaluate the association between the bilirubin to albumin ratio and prognosis in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Methods: This was a retrospective study of 731 patients who were admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) at a tertiary-care center from July 2015 to September 2017. We analyzed the bilirubin to albumin ratio on admission to
