About the Lab

Professor Man-jong Baek's research lab specializes in cardiovascular and biomedical engineering, focusing on improving the durability and biocompatibility of biological tissues for cardiac prostheses. The lab investigates novel chemical modifications of tissues—such as sulfonated PEO and heparin grafting on glutaraldehyde-fixed bovine pericardium—to enhance calcification resistance and mechanical stability. Additionally, the lab conducts clinical and epidemiological studies on metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, particularly examining the long-term impact of hyperuricaemia and diabetes on type 2 diabetes mellitus and major adverse cardiac events.
