About the Lab
Professor Min Bom Kim's research lab specializes in orthopedic trauma and reconstructive surgery, with a strong focus on innovative surgical techniques for complex fractures and soft tissue defects. The lab emphasizes minimally invasive and patient-specific approaches, including advanced fixation methods for posterior malleolar and distal radius fractures, as well as microsurgical soft tissue reconstruction in pediatric and adult patients. A key innovation in the lab is the integration of digital technology—such as intraoral scanning, CAD software, and 3D simulation—into implant and prosthesis planning to enhance surgical precision and clinical outcomes.

15OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the lateral transmalleolar (LTM) approach for a displaced posterolateral fragments of a posterior malleolus fracture. DESIGN: Prospective, consecutive. SETTING: Level 1 trauma center. PATIENTS: Thirty-six patients. OUTCOME MEASURES: The x-rays, evaluation of arthritic changes of the ankle joint, range of motion, and Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment questionnaire (SMFA). INTERVENTION: The LTM approach followed by multiple interfragmentary miniscrew-only fixation.
Dorsal soft-tissue defects of the foot and ankle are difficult to cover adequately, particularly in children, although multiple options for reconstruction are available. This study reports the long-term clinical outcomes of the use of distally based adipofascial flaps for these injuries in children. Fourteen children, all younger than 9 years, had relatively homogenous local lesions on the dorsum of the foot and ankle or on the distal lower leg. All 14 defects were covered with distally based ad
Background: In the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) era, surgical resident education depends largely on virtual materials. With the help of point-of-view (POV) cameras, educational videos have become widely used for surgical training. A video recorded from the surgeon's POV helps demonstrate the procedure. We made training movies of the surgical approach to distal radius fractures for residents using a head-mounted video recording system with a laser point targeting device (LPTD). Methods: A
Large tibial defects that occur after tumoral resection can be effectively reconstructed by three-column reconstruction using a medial locking plate, an inlay single-barrel VFG harvested from the contralateral side, and the intact ipsilateral fibula. This technique permits early weight-bearing before fibular hypertrophy and bony union.
Background: The treatment of complex transverse olecranon fractures (CTOFs), also known as olecranon fractures with the impacted articular fragments (IAF), was reported recently. We fix IAFs with absorbable pins supported by autologous bone graft followed by olecranon fracture fixation. We have used the arc centre distance (ACD) method to evaluate the congruency of this concentric hinge joint. The aim of this study is to present the outcomes of this fixation technique and evaluate the value of t
Supracondylar fracture of the humerus is the most frequently encountered fracture around the elbow in children. Avascular necrosis is an uncommon complication after supracondylar fracture, but fishtail deformity after avascular necrosis of the trochlea is well known. However, transient osteochondrosis of the capitellum after a supracondylar fracture has not been previously reported in the English literature except 1 case abstract. The authors report their experience of transient osteochondrosis
Background/Objectives: The diagnosis of osteomyelitis is typically based on clinical suspI icion supported by imaging and lab findings. Various nuclear medicine imaging, including bone SPECT/CT, is emerging as an effective tool to guide the diagnosis of osteomyelitis. This study investigates whether the preoperative 99mTc DPD bone SPECT/CT uptake \ratio correlates with intraoperative tissue culture positivity in patients with suspected lower extremity osteomyelitis. Methods: We retrospectively r
