About the Lab
Professor Myoungho Sunwoo's research lab specializes in intelligent automotive systems, focusing on advanced control strategies and perception technologies for autonomous driving. The lab develops adaptive control techniques—such as model reference and explicit adaptive control—for active suspension systems to enhance ride comfort and vehicle performance under uncertain and varying conditions. It also pioneers innovative algorithms in simultaneous localization and map update (SLAMCU), integrating Dempster–Shafer evidence theory and particle filtering to enable real-time, reliable HD map updates. The lab’s work bridges control theory, autonomous vehicle perception, and probabilistic motion planning to improve safety, adaptability, and system robustness in dynamic driving environments.

15A model reference adaptive control (MRAC) technique for vehicle active suspension subsystems is presented. The MRAC automatically self-tunes the active suspension so that disturbance and vibration of a vehicle is reduced to a level determined by an ideal conceptual suspension reference model. The Lyapunov stability method was used in the design of the MRAC. It is shown that the MRAC suspension can accommodate large variances in sprung load and suspension component characteristics and achieves si
High Definition (HD) maps are becoming key elements of the autonomous driving because they can provide information about the surrounding environment of the autonomous car without being affected by the real-time perception limit. To provide the most recent environmental information to the autonomous driving system, the HD map must maintain up-to-date data by updating changes in the real world. This paper presents a simultaneous localization and map change update (SLAMCU) algorithm to detect and u
