About the Lab

Professor Na-Young Shin's research lab focuses on neuroimaging and biomarker discovery in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. The lab investigates structural and functional brain changes using advanced MRI techniques, including perivascular space assessment, cortical thickness analysis, and resting-state fMRI, to identify early predictors of cognitive decline and dementia. A central theme is understanding the interplay between vascular pathology, neurodegeneration, and cognitive impairment at both the population and individual levels through multimodal imaging and machine learning approaches. The lab also explores the genetic and heritable components of brain microvascular changes, contributing to precision medicine in neurodegenerative conditions.
