About the Lab

Professor Park Bum Soo's research lab focuses on marine microbial ecology, particularly the interactions between harmful algal blooms and associated bacterial communities in coastal marine environments. The lab investigates how inorganic nutrient loading influences bacterioplankton community composition and function, with a strong emphasis on microbial diversity, symbiotic relationships, and environmental responses. Using advanced molecular techniques such as 16S rRNA amplicon pyrosequencing and metagenomics, the lab explores microbial dynamics across different growth stages of key dinoflagellates and diatoms, aiming to understand ecological and evolutionary mechanisms in marine systems.
