Risk factors for postoperative anxiety and depression after surgical treatment for lung cancer
Samina Park, Chang Hyun Kang, Yoohwa Hwang, Yong Won Seong, Hyun Joo Lee, In Kyu Park, Young Tae Kim
SJR Q1European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic SurgeryOA

Postoperative psychological distress and, in particular, depression increased after surgical treatment for lung cancer. Postoperative anxiety and depression were aggravated by residual symptoms after surgery. Careful psychological evaluation and appropriate management are required to improve patients' quality of life after lung cancer surgery.

Comparison of robot-assisted esophagectomy and thoracoscopic esophagectomy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Samina Park, Yoohwa Hwang, Hyun Joo Lee, In Kyu Park, Young Tae Kim, Chang Hyun Kang
SJR Q2Journal of Thoracic DiseaseOA

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to compare robot-assisted esophagectomy (RE) with thoracoscopic esophagectomy (TE) for the treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). METHODS: A total of 105 patients who underwent RE (n=62) or TE (n=43) due to ESCC were included in this study. Early postoperative outcomes and long-term survivals between the two groups were compared. RESULTS: . 7.8±7.1 in TE; P=0.007). Five-year overall survival was not different between the two groups (69% in RE

A study of the learning curve for robotic oesophagectomy for oesophageal cancer†
Samina Park, Kwanyong Hyun, Hyun Joo Lee, In Kyu Park, Young Tae Kim, Chang Hyun Kang
SJR Q1European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic SurgeryOA

OBJECTIVES: Robot-assisted minimally invasive oesophagectomy (RAMIE) enables radical, meticulous dissection of the oesophagus and lymph nodes. Our goal was to identify the effect of the learning curve for RAMIE when performing radical upper mediastinal dissection in patients with oesophageal cancer. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database of patients who underwent RAMIE for oesophageal cancer between May 2008 and July 2016. The gain in proficiency for

Current Trends of Lung Cancer Surgery and Demographic and Social Factors Related to Changes in the Trends of Lung Cancer Surgery: An Analysis of the National Database from 2010 to 2014
Samina Park, In Kyu Park, Eung Re Kim, Yoohwa Hwang, Hyun Joo Lee, Chang Hyun Kang, Young Tae Kim
SJR Q1Cancer Research and TreatmentOA

PURPOSE: We investigated current trends in lung cancer surgery and identified demographic and social factors related to changes in these trends. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We estimated the incidence of lung cancer surgery using a procedure code-based approach provided by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (http://opendata.hira.or.kr). The population data were obtained every year from 2010 to 2014 from the Korean Statistical Information Service (http://kosis.kr/). The annual percent c

Comparison of Clinical Outcomes and Postoperative Nutritional Status Between Early and Late Oral Feeding After Esophagectomy
Kwon Joong Na, Chang Hyun Kang, Young Ran Kim, Mi‐Jin Kang, Eun Hwa Song, Eun Joo Jang, Samina Park, Hyun‐Joo Lee, In Kyu Park, Young Tae Kim
SJR Q1Annals of SurgeryOA

OBJECTIVE: To compare nutritional and postoperative outcomes between early oral feeding and late oral feeding with jejunostomy feeding support after esophagectomy. BACKGROUND: Esophagectomy is associated with substantial body weight loss and malnutrition, impacting the prognosis of esophageal cancer patients. Despite many studies on postesophagectomy nutritional support, optimal strategies remain elusive. This study investigates the impact of jejunostomy feeding with late oral feeding compared t

Prevalence and risk factors of reflux after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer
Samina Park, Chang Hyun Kang, Hyun Joo Lee, In Kyu Park, Young Tae Kim
SJR Q2Journal of Thoracic DiseaseOA

BACKGROUND: Reflux symptoms including various extra-esophageal manifestations are commonly reported after esophagectomy. However, the intensity and presentation of reflux are both diverse and variable by patients. In this study we assessed reflux symptoms using the reflux symptom index (RSI) questionnaire in patients who underwent esophagectomy for esophageal cancer to order to identify the prevalence of significant reflux and its risk factors. METHODS: From April 2017 to July 2017, we investiga

Comparison between lung perfusion scan and single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography for predicting postoperative lung function after pulmonary resection in patients with borderline lung function
Kwon Joong Na, Samina Park, Hyun Joo Lee, In Kyu Park, Chang Hyun Kang, Young Tae Kim
SJR Q1European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic SurgeryOA

OBJECTIVES: We compared the usefulness of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) and lung perfusion scintigraphy (LPS) for predicting postoperative lung function by comparing patients with borderline lung function. METHODS: A total of 274 patients who underwent simultaneous LPS and SPECT/CT and had a forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) or diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) under 80% were included. The % uptake by LPS was calculated by the posterio

Double Lung Transplantation Using Bilateral Anterior Thoracotomies with Video-Assistance: Techniques, Advantages, and Considerations
Samina Park
SJR Q3Journal of Chest SurgeryOA

Lung transplantation remains the only curative option for patients with end-stage, medically refractory respiratory failure. Traditionally, the clamshell incision has been the primary surgical approach, as it provides extensive access to the mediastinum and bilateral pleural cavities. However, it is also associated with notable drawbacks, such as an increased risk of sternal nonunion and wound complications, which can impede postoperative recovery. This article introduces an alternative approach

Myocardial Revascularization in Two Patients Associated with Antiphospholipid Syndrome: Different Pathogenic Patterns and Angiographic Results
Samina Park, Ho Young Hwang, Hyun‐Jae Kang, Ki‐Bong Kim
The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeryOA

We report on two women who underwent myocardial revascularization associated with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) with different pathogenic patterns. The first woman presented with acute myocardial infarction, and preoperative angiograms demonstrated rapidly progressing coronary lesions, presumptive unstable plaque, and dissection. Operative findings, however, showed fresh thrombi in the coronary arteries, and she was diagnosed postoperatively as having APS. Her one-year angiogram demonstrated i
