About the Lab

Professor Sang On Lee's research lab specializes in pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery, with a focus on complex aortic arch reconstructions, long-term outcomes of valve and root replacements, and complications such as air embolism during endoscopic procedures. The lab also investigates innovative surgical techniques and systemic solutions for cardiac and perioperative challenges, particularly in high-risk populations like infants and elderly patients. Additionally, the lab explores the integration of modern technology, such as microservices architecture in hospitality IT systems, to improve clinical and operational efficiency.

Midterm results of arch augmentation with autologous vascular patch in interrupted aortic arch
Sang On Lee, Hong Ju Shin, Tae-Gook Jun, I‐Seok Kang, June Huh, Jinyoung Song, Ji‐Hyuk Yang
SJR Q1European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic SurgeryOA

OBJECTIVES: Aortic arch reconstruction of interrupted aortic arch remains challenging, and subsequent problems, including arch and airway stenosis, may occur. Thus, we investigated midterm results of an augmentation technique using autologous vascular patch. METHODS: This retrospective study included 24 patients who underwent arch reconstruction with an autologous vascular patch for interrupted aortic arch with biventricular physiology from 2006 to 2018. The median age and body weight at operati

The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeryOA

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is being offered increasingly frequently to octogenarians. However, old age is known to be an independent risk factor in CABG. The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) between octogenarians and septuagenarians. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 1,289 consecutive patients aged ≥70 years who underwent OPCAB at a single institution between 2001 and 2016. We compared the outcomes of

Developing Room Management Cloud Service for Small Hotels based on Micro-Service Architecture

Journal of KIISE

Fatal air embolism during intestinal endoscopy in Kasai portoenterostomy for biliary atresia: A case report
So Young Shin, Hee Jin Yeon, Sang On Lee, Jeong Rim Lee, Galam Leem, Seok Joo Han
World Journal of Gastrointestinal EndoscopyOA

BACKGROUND: Air embolism (AE) is a rare but potentially fatal complication of intestinal endoscopy (IE). CASE SUMMARY: Herein, we report the case of an 18-year-old woman who underwent a successful Kasai portoenterostomy (KPE) for biliary atresia but died of AE during intraoperative IE for stone removal at the portoenterostomy site. Our review of the English literature identified only four similar cases of fatal AE during IE in patients undergoing KPE. The common clinical setting in the five pati

Late Reoperation Following Ligation of the Left Main Coronary Artery in a Patient with Infective Endocarditis
Dong Woog Yoon, Sang On Lee, Pyo Won Park
The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeryOA

We report the case of a female patient who underwent late reoperation following endocarditis surgery. The patient first underwent surgery at 22 years of age for endocarditis with aortic and tricuspid insufficiency. She underwent aortic root replacement with a homograft and tricuspid valve replacement with a tissue valve. Coronary artery bypass using the internal thoracic artery and ligation of the left main coronary artery were performed. Ten years later, failure of the homograft and the tricusp

Pulmonary vein stenosis after pediatric heart transplantation: incidence and risk factors
Hyun Soo Lee, Han Ki Park, Sang On Lee, Yu Rim Shin
SJR Q2Frontiers in SurgeryOA

Objectives Postoperative pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) is an uncommon but potentially serious complication following pediatric heart transplantation. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of PVS and identify donor- and recipient-related predictors. Methods We retrospectively reviewed pediatric patients (<18 years) who underwent heart transplantation at a single center between 2003 and 2024. PVS was defined as a ≥ 4 mmHg Doppler gradient across any pulmonary vein on echocardiography
