About the Lab
Professor Sang-Wook Woo's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and metabolic disorders, with a particular emphasis on autophagy, oxidative stress, and inflammation in tumor microenvironments. The lab investigates signaling pathways such as JAK2/STAT3 and their interplay with reactive oxygen species (ROS) and NADPH oxidase in cancer cell survival under stress conditions. Additionally, the lab explores the clinical implications of metabolic syndrome components—such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)—in breast cancer patients, as well as the therapeutic potential of endogenous lipid mediators like 15d-PGJ(2) in modulating inflammatory responses. The research also extends to minimally invasive surgical techniques, particularly in thyroid and breast cancer, emphasizing patient safety and cosmetic outcomes.
