About the Lab
Professor Seongjin Bae's research lab focuses on health technology assessment, regulatory policy, and health economics in the context of innovative biologics and regenerative medicine. The lab investigates cost-effectiveness, real-world outcomes, and market dynamics of advanced therapies such as CAR T-cell therapy, biosimilars, and regenerative medicine products. Key research directions include health policy evaluation, comparative effectiveness research, and the development of regulatory frameworks to ensure patient access while maintaining safety and value. The lab also explores clinical and demographic factors influencing treatment outcomes in rare or complex conditions.

15Although chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has shown a high response rate in lymphoma patients, its cost-effectiveness is controversial due to the high price and uncertainty of the clinical evidence. In addition to the high acquisition cost of CAR T-cell therapy, procedure and facility cost increase the financial burden considering the frequency of adverse events such as cytokine release syndrome. In clinical research, relatively short follow-up periods were used compared to traditi
Special attention should be paid to elderly women with high comorbidity who develop PPU.
The uptake of biosimilar infliximab varied greatly, and in contrast to the UK, France, and Japan, the introduction of biosimilar infliximab resulted in market expansion in Korea, which might be explained by a lack of demand-side policies in Korea. Both supply- and demand-side measures are necessary for health authorities to achieve desired savings from the availability of biosimilars.
PUB incidence was higher among men and increased with advanced age. Increased 30-day mortality was observed in association with increasing age, after adjusting for comorbidity.
Abnormal colouring of the nails may be a sign of underlying systemic or local disorders. This study investigated the prevalence and causes of chromonychia as a whole, as well as of each subtype. Among 163 patients with chromonychia, trauma was the pathogenesis in up to 20.9% (34/163) of cases. The most common subtype was melanonychia (54.0%; 88/163), followed by leukonychia (23.9%), red (8.6%), green (6.7%), yellow (4.9%) and blue (1.8%) nails. Nail matrix naevus (33.3%; 29/88) was the most comm
The Korean government has enacted the Act on Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biological products (ARMAB) in August 2019, and it has been implemented in 2020. We reviewed the changes made by ARMAB compared to the existing Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and discussed future challenges to accelerate regenerative medicine while ensuring safety and efficacy. This act and regulations focused on the key elements of act as follows: the definition of advanced regenerative medicine (RM), the licen
OBJECTIVE: This study analysed utilisation of statins for new statin users and assessed market dynamics of statins in South Korea. DESIGN: This study is a retrospective cohort study. SETTING: The yearly claims data for statins were retrieved from the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: We are interested in new statin users during 2003-2015 in Korea. Information on prescribed statins, including intensity of statins and entry of new and follow-on statins
OBJECTIVES: To estimate the costs and healthcare resources of patients with diabetic macular oedema (DME) who received intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents or a dexamethasone intravitreal implant (DEX-implant) in Korea. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: The Korean National Health Insurance claim data from 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2017 were retrieved from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service. PARTICIPANTS: Adult patients with DME who wer
This study used the Korean National Health Insurance (NHI) claims database from 2011 to 2017 to estimate the incidence and the incidence-based cost of cervical cancer and carcinoma in situ of cervix uteri (CIS) in Korea. The primary outcome was the direct medical cost per patient not diagnosed with cervical cancer (C53) or CIS (D06) 2 years prior to the index date in the first year after diagnosis. A regression analysis was conducted to adjust for relevant covariates. The incidence of cervical c
