About the Lab
Professor Seung-ho Han's research lab specializes in forensic anthropology and clinical anatomy, with a strong focus on anatomical variability and its applications in human identification. The lab conducts detailed morphometric analyses of skeletal structures—particularly the hyoid bone, thoracic vertebrae, and lower limb muscles—to develop sex determination methods using imaging and statistical techniques. The marginal mandibular branch (MMB) has a particular risk of injury during surgical procedures in the submandibular region, especially over the lower border of the mandible. The facial nerve has been described in many studies, but the MMB is dealt with generally as a branch of the facial nerve. Thirty-three linear measurements and two ratios were derived from 102 12th thoracic vertebrae of the Digital Korean database at the Catholic Institute for Applied Anatomy.
