About the Lab

Professor Seung Hyun Han's research lab focuses on the immunomodulatory roles of bacterial cell wall components, particularly lipoteichoic acids (LTA) and lipoproteins, in host-microbe interactions. The lab investigates how these microbial patterns influence innate immune responses, inflammation, and tissue homeostasis in contexts ranging from sepsis and bone destruction to gut and oral health. A central theme is understanding the structural and functional diversity of LTA from different bacteria and its impact on immune cell activation or suppression. The lab also explores the therapeutic potential of probiotic-derived molecules in preventing or treating infectious and inflammatory diseases.
