Professor Seung Hyun Oh's research lab focuses on identifying bioactive natural compounds and elucidating their molecular mechanisms in treating inflammatory and malignant diseases. The lab investigates the therapeutic potential of plant-derived molecules, such as deguelin, farnesyltransferase inhibitors, sweet potato components, and allyl isothiocyanate, in cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Key research directions include targeting molecular chaperones like Hsp90, modulating signaling pathways such as IGF-IR and IL-6/STAT3, and exploring the role of gut microbiota and intestinal barrier integrity in disease progression. The lab employs integrative approaches combining molecular biology, cell culture, animal models, and bioactivity-guided compound isolation to develop novel, natural-based therapeutics with reduced side effects.
