About the Lab

Professor Sin-Hyuk Kang's research lab focuses on neuro-oncology, particularly the molecular mechanisms underlying brain metastasis and glioblastoma pathogenesis. The lab investigates key signaling pathways such as STAT3 in tumor progression, angiogenesis, and therapy resistance, with a strong emphasis on translational approaches using patient-derived glioma stem cells. Innovative therapeutic strategies, including repurposing CNS-penetrant drugs like penflurido, are explored to overcome drug resistance and improve outcomes in aggressive brain tumors. The lab also contributes to neurosurgical safety protocols, emphasizing endoscopic visualization in spinal interventions to minimize complications.

Brain metastasis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with melanoma. The molecular changes that lead to brain metastasis remain poorly understood.
