About the Lab

Professor Song-I Kim's research lab focuses on infectious diseases, particularly antimicrobial resistance and severe bacterial infections in critical care settings, with a strong emphasis on carbapenem-resistant *Acinetobacter baumannii* and tuberculosis. The lab also investigates biomarkers for early diagnosis of acute kidney injury and explores the genetic basis of inflammatory skin disorders such as atopic dermatitis and Olmsted syndrome. Additionally, the lab contributes to transplant medicine by analyzing lung allocation and outcomes in the context of urgency status in South Korea. Their work integrates clinical microbiology, molecular genetics, and critical care nephrology to improve patient outcomes in high-risk populations.

Journal of Korean Medical Science

To assess the risk factors for carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB)bacteremia and for 30-day mortality in patients with CRAB bacteremia in the intensive care unit (ICU), we conducted a retrospective study in the ICU at Severance Hospital in Korea from January 2008 to December 2009. Patients who acquired CRAB bacteremia in the ICU were enrolled as the case group and patients whose specimens of blood culture,sputum/endotracheal aspirate and urine revealed no AB were enrolled as cont

Purpose: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in critically ill patients. Serum cystatin C has emerged as a reliable marker of AKI. We sought to assess the value of serum cystatin C for early detection and prediction of renal function recovery in patients with sepsis. Materials and Methods: Sepsis patients (113 AKI patients and 49 non-AKI patients) admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) were included. Serum creatinine and cystatin C levels and glomerular filtration rate were measured on days 0

Purpose: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, relapsing eczematous inflammatory skin disease. Mutations in the filaggrin gene (FLG) are major predisposing factors for AD. Ethnic differences exist between Asian and European populations in the frequency and spectrumof FLG mutations. Moreover, a distinct set of FLG mutations has been reported in Asian populations. The aim of this study was to examine the spectrum of FLG mutations in Koreans with AD. We also investigated the association of FLG mutat

Purpose: We investigated the characteristics of lung allocation and outcomes of lung transplant (LTx) according to the Korean urgencystatus. Materials and Methods: LTx registration in the Korean Organ Transplantation Registry (KOTRY) began in 2015. From 2015 toJune 2017, 86 patients who received LTx were enrolled in KOTRY. After excluding one patient who received a heart-lung transplant,85 were included. Subjects were analyzed according to the Korean urgency status. Results: Except for Status 0,

곽세현, Ji Soo Choi, 이은혜, 이수환, Ah Young Leem, 이상훈, 김송이, 정경수, 정지예, 박무석, 김영삼, 장준

Background/Aims: Delayed diagnosis and treatment of smear-negative pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) are major concerns for TB control. We evaluated characteristics of patients with smear-negative pulmonary TB who received a delayed diagnosis and identified risk factors that may have contributed to this delay. Methods: We reviewed medical records of patients with smear-negative culturepositive pulmonary TB treated at a tertiary care hospital in South Korea between January 2017 and December 2018. Patie

https://www.eymj.org/DOIx.php?id=10.3349/ymj.2018.59.2.341

Olmsted syndrome (OS) is a rare congenital skin disorder characterized by severe palmoplantar and periorificial keratoderma, alopecia, onychodystrophy, and severe pruritus. Recently, pathogenic ‘gain-of-function’ mutations of the transient receptor potentialvanilloid 3 gene (TRPV3), which encodes a cation channel involved in keratinocyte differentiation and proliferation, hair growth, inflammation, pain and pruritus, have been identified to cause OS. Due to the rarity, the pattern of inheritance

Purpose: We aimed to determine the relationship between environmental exposure and nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonarydisease (NTM-PD) in Korea. Materials and Methods: A group of 150 patients with NTM-PD and a control group of 217 patients with other respiratory diseaseswere prospectively enrolled between June 2018 and December 2020 in Seoul, Korea. They were surveyed with a standardizedquestionnaire, and their medical records were reviewed. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) w

http://ymj.kr/DOIx.php?id=10.3349/ymj.2015.56.5.1372

Purpose: Anastomotic airway complications are a major cause of morbidity and mortality after lung transplantation (LTx). In this study, the authors identified types and clinical outcomes of airway complications after LTx. Materials and Methods: All bronchial anastomotic complications were analyzed in a total of 94 LTx cases involving 90 recipients who underwent surgery between July 2006 and May 2014. Fifteen LTx cases (14 recipients) with incomplete medical records for fiberoptic bronchoscopy (F

Purpose: Isoniazid (INH) mono-resistant tuberculosis (Hr-TB) is a highly prevalent type of drug-resistant TB, possibly associatedwith unfavorable treatment outcomes. However, definitive guidelines on an optimal treatment regimen and duration for Hr-TBare currently under discussion. We evaluated the characteristics and treatment outcomes of Hr-TB patients. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of Hr-TB patients treated at a South Korean tertiary referralhospital f

Purpose: Endobronchial metastasis is defined as documented extrathoracic malignancies metastatic to the endobronchus within a bronchoscopically visible range. Although the clinical and radiologic findings of endobronchial metastasis are similar to primary lung cancer, treatment and prognosis may be different. We hereby investigated the clinical, radiologic and bronchoscopic aspects of endobronchial metastases (EBM) in Korean patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 43 patients with EBM who un

Background: Recent reports have suggested that pneumonitis is a rare complication following vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). However, its clinical features and outcomes are not well known. The aim of this study was to identify the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with vaccine-associated pneumonitis following vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. Purpose: Calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) use has improved lung transplantation outcomes. However, significant perioperative complicationsin patients receiving CNI can deteriorate the early course of lung transplantation. To date, there is no consensus regardingthe optimal agent for the induction regimen after lung transplantation. We aimed to determine the efficacy of basiliximab inductionwith delayed CNI initiation in the prevention of acute complications without compromising immunosuppression inhi

Purpose: Recent history of malignancy without 5-year disease-free interval is an absolute contraindication for lung transplantation(LTx). However, in rare cases, lung cancer may be incidentally diagnosed in the explanted lung of recipients. We evaluatedthe prevalence, 5-year survival, and prognosis of incidental lung cancer after LTx. Materials and Methods: Medical records of patients who underwent LTx at Severance Hospital between January 1, 2012 and June30, 2019 were reviewed. Patients with in

김송이, 정봉주

This paper presents adoption process for GSCM (Green Supply Chain Management) in Korean manufacturing companies by analyzing their sustainability reports. At first, we developed GSCM evaluation index from two different frameworks, sustainability evaluation framework focusing on environmental side and strategy and activities in GSCM. Based on this, we analyzed 158 sustainability reports of Korean manufacturing firms published from 2008 to 2012. As a result, we observed that the adoption process f
