About the Lab

Professor Soohyun Lee's research lab specializes in diagnostic medical imaging, with a primary focus on breast cancer screening and tissue characterization using ultrasound elastography and diffusion-weighted MRI. The lab investigates the integration of elastography—particularly shear wave elastography—into clinical decision-making to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce unnecessary biopsies in women with dense breast tissue. Research also extends to psychological aspects of clinical practice, including counselor self-efficacy and clinical competence, particularly in managing challenging counseling situations. The lab emphasizes evidence-based imaging protocols and standardization in breast imaging to enhance patient outcomes.

The addition of SWE to B-mode US improved diagnostic performance with increased specificity for screening US-detected breast masses. BI-RADS category 4a masses detected at US screening that showed a dark blue color or a maximum elasticity value of 30 kPa or less on SWE images can be safely followed up instead of performing biopsy.

Ultrasound (US) elastography is a valuable imaging technique for tissue characterization. Two main types of elastography, strain and shear-wave, are commonly used to image breast tissue. The use of elastography is expected to increase, particularly with the increased use of US for breast screening. Recently, the US elastographic features of breast masses have been incorporated into the 2nd edition of the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) US lexicon as associated findings.

Purpose To investigate the value of the combined use of elastography and color Doppler ultrasonography (US) with B-mode US for evaluation of screening US–detected breast masses in women with dense breasts. Materials and Methods This prospective, multicenter study included asymptomatic women with dense breasts who were referred for screening US between November 2013 and December 2014. Eligible women had a newly detected breast mass at conventional B-mode US screening, for which elastography and c

Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Breast: Standardization of Image Acquisition and Interpretation
Su Hyun Lee, Hee Jung Shin, Woo Kyung Moon
SJR Q1Korean Journal of RadiologyOA

Diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a rapid, unenhanced imaging technique that measures the motion of water molecules within tissues and provides information regarding the cell density and tissue microstructure. DW MRI has demonstrated the potential to improve the specificity of breast MRI, facilitate the evaluation of tumor response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and can be employed in unenhanced MRI screening. However, standardization of the acquisition and interpretation

Intraoperative Dexmedetomidine Improves the Quality of Recovery and Postoperative Pulmonary Function in Patients Undergoing Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery
Su Hyun Lee, Chang Yeong Lee, Jin Gu Lee, Namo Kim, Hye‐Mi Lee, Young Jun Oh
SJR Q3MedicineOA

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has been known to be a stressful event for patients, and dexmedetomidine is known to attenuate surgery-induced sympathetic responses and potentiate analgesia in perioperative periods. The present was designed to evaluate the effects of intraoperative dexmedetomidine administration on the quality of recovery (QoR) and pulmonary function after VATS. Patients with lung cancer undergoing VATS were randomized to Dex group (loading of 1.0 μg/kg for 20 minute

Tumor growth rate of invasive breast cancers during wait times for surgery assessed by ultrasonography

SJR Q3MedicineOA

Several studies suggest that delay in the surgical treatment of breast cancer is significantly associated with lower survival. This study evaluated the tumor growth rate (TGR) of invasive breast cancers during wait times for surgery quantitatively using ultrasonography (US) and identified clinicopathologic factors associated with TGR.This retrospective study was approved by our institutional review board and the requirement for written informed consent was waived.
http://krcpa.jams.or.kr/jams/co/download/popup/poDownload.kci?storFileBean.orteFileId=FI0002186166
