About the Lab

Professor Suk Woo Hong's research lab focuses on musculoskeletal and metabolic bone health, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between muscle function, bone quality, and metabolic regulation in aging and osteoporotic populations. The lab investigates the role of biological mediators such as PPARγ, GDF-15, and S1P in regulating bone metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and β-cell function, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets for diabetes and osteoporosis. Using advanced imaging and 3D modeling techniques, the lab also explores the effects of neuromuscular interventions—such as botulinum toxin injections—on mandibular cortical bone integrity. Additionally, the lab evaluates patient-centered health information quality, particularly regarding hand osteoarthritis, to improve public health literacy.
