About the Lab

Professor Sul-Hee Park's research lab focuses on molecular oncology, particularly the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying brain tumors such as meningiomas and hepatocellular carcinoma. The lab investigates tumor suppressor genes like p53, explores biomarkers for early detection and prognosis, and examines host-pathogen interactions in infectious diseases, including novel coagulase-negative staphylococci. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical diagnostics by evaluating rapid molecular tests and assessing metabolic markers in diabetes and kidney disease.

Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rates Show Minor but Significant Differences Between the Single and Subgroup Creatinine-Based Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration Equations

The creatinine-based Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation can be calculated according to race, sex, and creatinine concentration (subgroup equation) or in the form expressed by one equation (single equation). Minor differences in the constants used in the CKD-EPI equations (subgroup vs single equations) could result in a significant difference in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). We evaluated the impact of this difference in 79,709 Korean patients.

새로운 인플루엔자 신속항원검사 BD Veritor System의 평가

배경: 신속항원검사는 인플루엔자의 빠른 진단과 치료를 위해 흔히 사용되고 있다. 저자들은 새로이 소개된 BD VeritorSystem for Rapid Detection of Flu A+B (BD Veritor System; BD Diagnostics, USA)의 성능을 다중 실시간 역전사 PCR검사법과 비교하여 평가하고자 하였다. 방법: 2013년 12월부터 2014년 4월까지 독감유사증상을 주소로 내원한 3,213명 환자에서 비인두 면봉이나 비강 면봉으로채취한 검체를 대상으로 BD Veritor System 검사를 시행하였다. 이중에서 AdvanSure RV real-time PCR (AdvanSure PCR;LG Life Sciences, Korea)을 이용하여 다중 실시간 역전사 PCR 검사를 동시에 시행한 127 검체를 대상으로 민감도와 특이도를 구하였다. 결과: BD Veritor System 검사 결과 41.3% (1,327/3,213)에서 인플루엔자 바이러스가 검출되었

Incidentally, hemoglobin (Hb) variants can be detected using HbA1c tests in clinical laboratories. We found 38 patients with Hb variants after reviewing a total of 29,398 HbA1c test results from January 2017 to December 2017. 중증 한랭응집소병 환자에서의 혈장교환 치료 1예

한랭응집소병은 자가면역용혈성빈혈로, 정상체온 이하의 온도에서 용혈을 일으키는 자가항체인 한랭응집소에 의해 발생한다. 저자들은 한랭응집소병 환자에서 급성으로 악화된 중증 빈혈을혈장교환을 시행하여 성공적으로 치료한 증례를보고하는 바이다. 혈장교환은 이틀에 한번씩 총4회 시행하였다. 같은 시기에 총 8 단위의 세척적혈구를 수혈하였다. 그 후 혈색소가 4.0 g/dL에서7.8 g/dL로 상승하였다. 입원 12일째에 혈색소가다시 4.2 g/dL로 감소하였고 fludarabine 약물요법을 입원 14일째에 시작하였다. 환자는 증상이 호전되어 입원 30일에 퇴원하였다. 본 증례에서와같이, 혈장교환은 한랭응집소질환에서 급성 중증용혈성빈혈의 일시적인 호전을 위한 보조 치료방법으로 고려해 볼 수 있겠다.
